Bold prediction for the offseason. Panthers will tag Peppers, ....and trade him.

Just don't want to see Pep in a Cowboy uniform.

I don't think it's likely, seeing as how they don't really need a sack master that they've already got one in Demarcus. They know there are better, more urgent ways to spend their money.

IIRC they traded their first rounder away didn't they?

Right now they are saying before we sign peppers and gross that we only have 10 million in cap space....I don't even see how that is enough to sign pep and gross without us releasing a big contract...ken lucas, jake delhomme or something along those lines. Unless Marty really did a number this time, and our cap room is actually something along the lines of 20 million.

Jake's contract will probably be restructured. He never had a problem with it before, and if he does, tough sh1t, 31 other teams would've released you after a 6 turnover performance in the playoffs. You're still entrenched in the starters role so be thankful.

Lucas' situation is sad to me. He gets a bad rap that he can't play, or he's getting old, or what else, but he is a bump-and-run corner, and when you're that but you're playing weak ass zone coverage, no matter what you're going to give up pass plays. Sadly, the team may agree that his production has waned and therefore is not worth all that money and part ways.

Although, when I think about it, it might as well be sensible to spend little money on CBs if you'd be pissing it away anyway by setting up the talent you have for failure, and we can pay Marshall a fraction of the money to get beat on passing plays because he can't jam the receiver at the line because Trgocrap won't let him.

Like I said, I love Peppers, but if we can get a top ten pick for him, save 13-18 mil in the process, and then trade down to accumulate some picks would be the most economic way of maximizing the talent we have. That's of course assuming that we can maximize that talent,

Lets see how much cap can be saved for next season.

Delhomme -----he'll be back for at least one more year, so lets restructure his deal and save money. Probably save 2 million maybe 3 on a restructured deal.

Lucas- cap casualty If his numbers for next season are drasticly different from this years when 4.5 million of his over 5.9 million cap hit are for bonuses and his actual salary is 5.4 million 500 thousand less then his hit. no savings

landon Johnson - 2 million

Lewis - would save us a little over 2 million

Thats about it unless you want to get rid of SS.

so our cap room is now 17 million with us having to resign peppers and gross.

Consider the fact that peppers would make 11 million next year that leaves the panthers with just 6 million to sign him. Not gonna happen. Gross is going to get Top LT money, maybe one of the richest deals ever for a LT, because of his All-pro and pro bowl status this season. Pretty much unless there is a slight of hand like last off season. (we were listed as having right at 6 million when really we had almost 17 million in cap room) were not keeping both in a panthers jersey unfortunately. So who do we keep?

so thats our total cap room for next season barring an absolute miracle by marty on the books

Peppers is not an outspoken guy, so sometimes you have to look beyond what Peppers is saying to determine what Peppers is thinking. Nobody here really knows what that is, which is why there is a lot of guessing going on. But let's look at what we do know:

- Peppers says it's not about the money. I trust him, in that it's not ENTIRELY about the money. He never said that it wasn't about respect. Many NFL players attribute money with respect and I don't doubt that Peppers feels somewhat the same. So, money isn't the biggest aspect, but it's certainly a factor.

- Peppers says that he wants to do what is right for him without leaving the organization in a lurch. I take that to mean he wouldn't mind staying here, but he wants to play for a team that can utilize his talents to his benefit as well as the team. Digging further, I get the feeling that he is not entirely happy with the way he has been used in the past couple of years.

- Peppers and the Panthers have been negotiating for 18 months. Negotiations do not occur if both parties aren't interested, meaning Peppers still has the desire to play for the Panthers, if the conditions are right.

My interpretation is that Panthers wants to see something happen on the defensive side of the ball. That means a philisophical change that allows him to make more of an impact during the game. Drilling deeper, I get the sense that Peppers would like to see a new DC and philosophy implemented.

Just one fan's take. With Julius, you just never know.

I fixed that typo, but you are 100% in your assessment...

I wonder if we went away from bump and run because Fox doesn't think our corners can do it or he would actually play the same crappy coverage if he had Nnamdi and Champ Bailey back there. You are probably right though.

Hard to know what the hecks he thinks, or if he is thinking at all.

ugh... our coverage will stink as long as the turd is around or until fox takes his d*ck out of the turds a$$ and makes a change himself...

Spot on there. He has the contract in front of him, it makes him the highest paid Defensive player in league history. I completely agree he's waiting to see if the team makes a change on the defensive side of the ball concerning coaching and scheme. If we don't expect a Franchise tag and trade with another team for something similar to the allen deal last year.

i wish he had the power to do something like that but im sure foxy will just look at him and say " hey man our d is what it is... we will look over it and try to execute better next year". then pep will mumble something that sounds like Eor and drop back in coverage... i mean leave

"DT: There needs to be a line disruptor to complement our run stuffer, someone needs to fill the void Jenkins left behind playwise."

I've been thinking about our lack of a great pass rushing DT all season long. I'll shocked if the Panthers don't make a move to get an exceptional pass rushing DT. Lewis is more of a backup.

"QB: Yea I know i'm f*cking reaching here."

For Fox you're reaching, but the Panthers need a better QB than Jake. With Jake we will never be a dominant team because Jake is too inconsistant. Jake can throw a game away at any moment. The sad fact is that the NFL has too many teams and not enough QBs to go around. Doesn't mean we stop looking right? Right Coach Fox? "It is what it is." Is that like "I Am What I Am"? I guess that all depends on what my definition of is is. But what's it? Sorry got lost in Fox land.

Keep in mind that teams TOTALLY AVOID throwing Nn's way.

Put him on Fitz sat night and the Huddle is a different world EVEN with Jake.

I say one taker may be Houston. Has some money, mid 1st rd, NC State player with NC ties. From what I hear Pep likes Houston.

Franchise is the ONLY way right now.

With Mario and Pep's contracts they'd have a TON of money tied up on their D line... It would be a D coordinators wet dream but not sure if any team can afford that?
