Dear Panthers, in regards to keeping Gettis instead of pursuing Houshmandzadeh

Guys keep in mind your misguided optimism of developing these young WR's should be crushed by the team's inept ability at doing so the last 7 years.

uh.. yeah.

------

saying our draft picks development has been buried on the depth chart by FAs is a good try.. except not when you are talking about the WR position...

This reminds me of past draft a QB arguements.

"Why draft a QB (such as Joe Flacco) when the Panther coaching staff is completely incapable of developing Quarter Backs."

I guess Colbert and Jarrett are Pro Bowlers but our staff coached/is coaching them out of the league. And let's hope Matt Moore learned everything he needs to know to lead us to the promised land during his brief stint with the Cowboys.

We are never going develop anyone if you keep supplanting them with aging veterans. The panthers are "COMMITTED" to youth movement and developing "IN HOUSE" talent at pretty much all positions. If DJ is salvageable we will learn early. However QB play has a huge significance on how our WR's look. Donavan McNabb made Freddie Jackson look good. Deion Branch looks great for Tom Brady. Jake Delhomme looked like he was suffering from Gulf War Syndrome. Give the team a chance. Or at least save it for after the 1st game.

You are right.JR and company are sticking to their guns with the youth movement. I think its also about JR addressing a possible lockout and dumping salary caps.Lets see if it works.

true that ...I can not wait for Fox to be gone.

Do we really need to make a list of all the players would could have gone after?? It is truely a miracle Smitty is still here.

I don't think not going after Hoosh is a Fox call.....these are coming straight from the top.

Everyone clamoring over Hoosh, think about this....

Seattle paid hime $7 million to go away

Vikings lost Rice for the season and told him no thanks

Cleveland has nobody at WR and publically that they were not interested in even talking to him

Now, I know that the vet min for a 1 yr deal is a very small price to pay for a proven vet. However, there must be a whole lot more to the attitude, etc. issue that most people want to believe.

& there is definitely something different in his contract with Seattle than what we did with Jake. Jake got the 12 mill guaranteed from us PLUS 7 from the Browns. I doubt either team planned on the contract turning into a 1 year deal but that's the reality of it. The reasons for Jake are known to us. Maybe one of the Seahawks fans that visit can let us in on a little more of the Hoosh dealings there that made so many uninterested. I think we need a better QB or another #2 will be of little benefit over what we have on the roster.

Don't get me wrong.....I wanted a vet #2 as much as anyone.

I am just questioning Hoosh after seeing how it all went down.

I understand wanting a vet #2, but view it kind of like buying a Ferarri while your driver's license is suspended. It'd be nice to say we have one, but what are we going to do with it? Call me a skeptic, but I am not convinced Moore is a starting calibre QB.

PS: Clausen & Pike are not yet either, so we basically do not have a starting QB on the roster.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
