NFC South Pick Challenge

Just wanted to extend an invitation to join in an NFC South pick challenge. At pewterreport.com, we have been running a weekly pick challenge for 6 years and have now developed software that will allow us to have fans from all 4 NFC South teams join in the competition. As this is a fan sponsored challenge, there is no prize except for weekly and yearly bragging rights. We have members from each team representing and will be calculating points based on 4 games each week. There will be a weekly individual winner announced, as well as the team with the highest points percentage collectively. This will be done at the end of the year as well and the team who takes the title will have bragging rights for the rest of the year. We will also be working on a 2010 NFCS PickEM Champion Logo that the winning player and winning team will be able to use in their forum or others.

The other teams message boards that will be playing along are pewterreport.com, life.atlantafalcons.com, carolinahuddle.com and blackandgold.com. There are sizable number of fans on each board so we are looking forward to a good turnout and a competitive challenge.

The way it will work for those who want to join in, is simple. I will post a thread here each week. Players will simply post the name of the team they think will win each of the 4 selected games and then the total yardage for one selected team as a tie breaker. Friendly trash talk is welcomed and I will be passing a few items from each team along each week (only the clean, tasteful stuff of course). So here goes the post and rules for Week one of the NFCS PickEM Challenge;

Regular Season Week # 1 Date: 9/12/2010

All are welcome!

Join the fun!

REGULAR SEASON RULES

Here's how it's done. To play, working with the spread, you pick four games each week, ONLY from the list posted below. If playing that week, any individual games not picked will be considered a loss. All games with NFCS teams are included, except Thursday/Friday games. The spread will come from FootballLocks.com once all NFCS numbers are known.

All initial point spreads that end in a WHOLE number will have .5 added by the moderator and will be included in the numbers you see posted below, so there can be no ties.

There is also a tiebreaker to determine the weekly Champ and it will always be GROSS passing yards for team selected, usually the Bucs.

NOTE: To avoid any possible misunderstandings, it would be most helpful if you entered ONLY the names of the four teams you selected and the number for the tiebreaker. Please do not re-post the entire moderators entry or other extraneous data. It just slows down the data entry.

Except for byes and when a NFCS team is playing each other, the first choice for selections will be NFCS teams. Otherwise, the moderator will select other games played on a SUNDAY, as need be, to make it four games.

To be in the running for the seasonal Champ, you need to have played at least half the games to date. To win the overall title, you need to have played ten weeks (40 games) and must have also played one of the final two weeks. (Can start as late as week 8 if you play all the remaining games.) The seasonal Champion is determined by best picking PERCENTAGE, NOT by the most number of wins.

Anyone can win the weekly Champ if you play 4 games in any given week!

When picking the tie breaker it will the one closest. If one is over and one is under, the tie goes to the player under. Example: If the passing yards number is 250. If someone picks 251 and someone else picks 249, the one with 249 wins.

Deadlines for entering is Noon each Sunday for games that week.

However, if there is an NFCS game on Saturday, the cutoff is NOON SATURDAY. Posts or changes after those times will not be considered.

The week number posted in this thread is the actual NFL week number and the date is the Sunday for that week's games.

If you post more than once and don't delete any multiple posts, your original post will be used. If you have changes, PLS delete your original post and resubmit as a new post and indicate its a REVISION. The moderator does not go back and review any prior posts for possible changes after it has already been posted to the worksheet, which is done every couple of hours.

Reports:

There are two reports:

1. Current weeks results, which includes naming the weekly Champ and a listing of all who played that week.

2. YTD. It lists all who have played and their percentages. It also shows only those who have qualified to date (have played half the games) and their percentages. Also indicates those who still have a chance to qualify. Last report of the season lists all who played for the year.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

(1) If you change your screen name during the course of any year's tournament, you must identify your original screen name in every subsequent post. Otherwise all records for that year will be split under the two names.

(2) If you have any questions that ONLY affect your data and/or your understanding of the rules, PM the moderator.

(3) Watch your PM because if the moderator has any questions about your post, he will PM you.

(4) If you are playing for another team in the NFCS, you need to identify that city in your post (Atlanta, Carolina, New Orleans). (Players City will be identified in parentheses after each players name).

Most of all, have fun and enjoy!

This weeks games and the spreads are:

Game #1 Browns +3.5 @ Bucs

Game #2 Falcons @ Steelers +2.5

Game #3 Panthers +7.5 @ Giants

Game #4 Colts @ Texans +2.5

This weeks tiebreaker total yardage team is: Bucs

Good Luck!

50+ Players already. All teams are represented except for the Panthers. We will need at least 10 players for this board to be involved. I will bump this message a few times before the cut off. Looking forward to getting you guys in on the challenge. FWIW, the Falcons board has several joining in and doing a bit of trash talking.

I'm confused on where we post our picks, in this thread?

And is it total yardage or passing yardage, it says both

Sorry if that wasn't clear. You can enter your picks in this thread. there will be one for each week as well as an update on the standings. As for the yardage, it is total yardage.

So do we just say "hey I want to join" or do we actually have to sign up some where?

Just enter your choices for each of the four games and the tie breaker stat in this thread. I will automatically include you in the tournament as I am serving as this years board liaison. Simple as that

Now less than 24 hours until the cutoff (Saturday at noon) and a very small number of Panther fans. The Bucs, Falcons and Saints are all beating you guys in numbers and say they will do the same in picks to prove Panther fans don't know football. Hope to see some healthy competition from your board. Good luck.
