Panthers sign Guy to practice squad

(By Darin Gantt, [email protected]) On the day he signed a second contract with his hometown team, it was hard for Trent Guy not to think of how close he came to never playing for the Carolina Panthers at all.p/Guy was signed to the practice squad Sunday. Players on the practice squad work with the team through the week but aren't eligible to play in games. They make about a quarter of the rookie minimum of $320,000 ($5,200 a week, or $88,400 if they stay all year), but they're also close enough to the eyes of evaluators to keep them a heartbeat away from a promotion in case of injuries.
