We Run to set up the pass....

How many teams have been able to really shut our run game down over the past three years? I can count the games on one hand? It's not like this is a new concept. Our passing game has been beyond mediocre since 2006 and you act like this is the first year that we will struggle. If our passing game is any worse than the past two years I will be seriously surprised. As long as our QBs don't average two picks per game we will be fine.

Half of you act like we haven't seen a consistent 8 to 9 man fronts for a few years now. Have you even been watching panthers football?

Which is why I'm not worried about this offense. Yes we are out of rhythm, and haven't found the endzone, but have a look at this if you will. in 2008 when we went 12-4 and had the 10th overall offense (19th passing, 3rd rushing). we saw success. because our focus was on running the ball. That is how this offense works:

2008 Pass attempts (246 - 32nd in NFL) Rushing attempts (504 - 6th in NFL).

This preseason were are looking to see what we can get out of the passing game. Of course they would like to score, thats how you win. But I'm pretty sure they know how many plays they are running and how its being distributed between passing and running. We are a running football team, that is how we score, and that is how we win.

2010 preseason Pass attempts- (117- 6th in NFL) Rushing attempts- (70- 24th in NFL)

expect that to change dramatically when the season starts...

(Stats from nfl.com/stats)

your stats are wrong. without looking i can tell you we attempted something like 415 passes in 2008. there is no way you can run an effective offense calling about a 2:1 run vs pass ratio

you are correct. 246 was completions, but guess what? still 32nd in the NFL, with 504 rushing attempts which was 6th. doesn't change the point

No, last year. We rushed for over 2200 yards, but finished 8-8 with a scoring average of under 20ppg (and that's only because we had a really strong finish). Who cares if we have a good rushing game and we can run through 8 in the box if we can't score.

you know as well as I do why we weren't successful last season....18 picks in 11 games. you can't win when your QB turns the ball over. Never. Ever. Never

Agree. And the stats are even more under-rating our running game in preseason because most of the running plays were merely to evaluate/decide on Goodson and others.

as long as our Defense is good, we don't need to light up the score board.

That's the formula Fox has used since he got here, and it hasn't really worked out yet. I love the way the defense has looked this preseason, and certainly have a lot more to look forward to than last year. I won't say I'm not worried about the offense, though, given past performances, and I don't just mean last season. That's why I'm hoping the last few games of the 2009 season are showing us a more productive offense than we've been accustomed to around here.
