Say Jake IS done...

Samuel L. Jackson

No easy solution. Jake is going to make alot of money next year and his performance this year doesnt warrent it. If you look at who is going to be available the only two I would bring in is Warner and Collins but they are not real options for the future. So with that said here is what I would do.

Re-sign jake for 2 years. Give him a good bonus and make the first year higher than the second.

Have a open compition in training camp between Jake, Josh and Moore. The best getting the starting job.

Pick up a rookie in the draft or Free agency give him a chance to make the team competeing against Moore. 4-7 rounder.

If Jake wins the starting job fine but we need to groom a QB for the future so I would like to see one taken in the draft this year not high but 4-7 round. If not pick one up in next years free agency because after the next two years Jake will be done.

Check out the play of the other QBs in the NFL this year and you'll see Jake was below average in almost every way. He was outplayed by players on far less talented teams even though he was asked to throw fewer passes than any other QB that started the entire season. His completion % sucked, his interception rate sucked, his td/int ratio sucked. We'll never know if someone else could do better unless we give them a shot, just like we did with Delhomme 5 years ago. If this season is what we can expect from Delhomme, (sub 60% completion, near 1/1 TD/INT ratio, 3% INT rate), I'm all for giving someone else a shot.

below average and below elite are 2 entirely different things.. Jake has always been below elite.. he is right at the top of the average QBs.. which is probably the best we have ever had..

Maybe you should realize that I don't care if Jake is gone or not...

I have even called for his head myself a long long time ago, but we chose to stick with him, and he is the starting QB for the Carolina Panthers... That is not my choice, but something I have to live with...

I just don't see a viable option other than Jake at this point, and instead of offer one, you continue to avoid the issue...

If Jake is gone and we have an 0-16 season (not saying that it's likely), who are you going to want gone then? Smitty? Smitty himself wants Jake here... Are you saying Smitty is a part of the problem too?

did you even try to change your way of thinking?

Huh?

Did you ask yourself what if Joke retires?

Take him out as a possibility (like any of us have any idea what all the possibilities even are) and think a little harder.

I offered what I thought would be muchbetter about an hour ago and said focus on defense in the draft. Utilize our stud RB tandem and with some direct snap, and give Moore a shot without jake, injured jake, or fiery jake looking over his shoulder.

I'm being serious here. We should at least give Derek Andersen a shot as backup. I believe he definitely has a better upside than McCown or Moore. He had a pretty serious concussion this year and it takes awhile to get back to yourself after that.

I mean, if Andersen gets cut from the Browns. Right now, I don't think he his worth his contract until he proves himself again.

Not done but we need to have a different QB for the future..no telling how long Jake's body is going to hold out. He will be 35 this time next year and hasn't exactly proven his "elite" status. He is a great leader but saying that we want Jake to be our QB past 2010 is IMO not a good idea. re-signing a 36 year old QB who has been middle of the pack his entire career??? Come on...

I've thought about this. I was really high on him before he got his extension and was drooling over possibilities for him considering Brady Quinn. Now I have grown a little colder but if it comes down to DA or Joke, bring him on.

Didnt we just get our ass kicked by a 40 year old QB???

If he gets cut by the Brown, its because Mangini is cleaning house so he can bring in players that fit his system. I'm pretty sure Mangenius will want to keep the younger one of the two QBs on the roster.

I still think Andersen has talent. He's definitely got the size and build to be an good QB. I mean, what other free agent would you want to give a shot at? Byron Leftwich?

    • The SEC were not having GT upset Georgia at home. Horrendously corrupt officiating in this game - the non-PI on 4th down and the non-targeting call on the King fumble. Good lord.
    • I like how they were about to punt the ball right before the two minute warning before being like... oh fug, this'll be too obvious we gotta try a FG then ole boy skulls one that never got more than about 12 feet off the ground. LOL!
