Ok somebody explain to me why Belichick is still universally regarded as the no.1 HC

1) consistently among the most competitive teams in the league.

2) has a great winning % in playoffs and regular season

3) really coaches his guys up, this season is a great example of that.

I dunno, just my opinion. So who do you think is the best right now?

I would say that over the last ten years he is the best overall coach. Obviously he is not always the best coach on any given Sunday or even throughout the entire year, but I think overall he has the most convincing argument for why he is the best coach in the NFL over that timespan.

If you disagree, who is it you think is better? Who do you think is really in the conversation with him then over that period?

poo i'm just glad that after the Pats' most decisive win of the season everybody's coming out of the woodwork to bump this thread. Where was everybody november 7th when they got destroyed by Cleveland lol

I honestly hadn't really found other threads on a regular basis because I didn't start using the New Posts option until the amount of "CLAUSEN VS LUCK/MOORE/BSP/AE" threads got the best of me.

He doesn't win every game, but imo, he is the most consistent. That's just why I think he is the best.

Those straws you're grasping for are pretty far out of reach

yup. The Patriots sometimes barely hang onto games, but they are always pushing it. When they get an upperhand, they push push push. They are always attacking, on both O and D.

Could you imagine the Panthers if they had 14-0 lead in the 2nd quarter? Oh, right. Sunday.

    • The Athletic FS had a Panthers fan write in about Mykel vs Jalon. Derrick K was surprisingly in favor of Mykel but gave a pretty compelling argument. You’re getting a baseline great run defender with some nice pass rush potential. You’re not getting the hyper athletic, violent, burst off the snap type, but he’s a grinder who can maintain a great level of play throughout a game. He’s the ideal type to eventually have paired with the more peppy/athletic edge rusher. No one says to avoid a 1B just because you don’t have or can’t find a 1A. And who knows, he could still become a double digit sack guy. 86” wingspan is monster. With Jalon, you’re using him as an EDGE. So you’re banking him fitting a super rare spot, that only Parsons has really followed through at. Myles Jack and others just didn’t work out as well. They mentioned you may just be getting a shorter Luvu-plus rather than a Parsons-lite.  Mykel at 8 will not surprise me in the least, and it could be a solid move.
    • I thought you said he never made use of a TE in his systems before... seems like from your post that he did. Just sayin'...
    • Oh, I'm not giving up on him, and I hope he grows and grows into a great TE, but he is far from dominant on the field right now. Pair him up with another young, but dominant TE and it opens a world of opportunities for our offense, both in the passing and rushing game. We would move more into the dictating our game to the other team than having their defense ram what they wanted to down our throats. We need hitters on offense. We need multi-role guys on the field. And we need some punch in the now before Thielen finally gets caught by Father Time.
