If Corvey Irvin is cut...

I looked into it one time, and I am now convinced that 2nd and third round picks around the league bust out at a much higher rate than people think. As fans, we tend to pencil them in as future starters and possible pro-bowlers, but I doubt it is looked at that way around the league.

Shouldn't let him go until he gets a chance in Rivera's D. John Fox had a way of ruining his DT draft prospects. Ones like Jovan Haye had success elsewhere...

I think Fox's tenure with the DT position was outstanding while he was here. Carstens, Moorehead, Hayden, Derek Landri, etc. You can knock Fox for a lot of things, but he turned a lot of bottom of the barrel players into starting caliber guys at DT.

Carstens and Moorehead were generally backups or playing next to some pretty good players like Peppers, Rucker, Buckner, Jenkins (when healthy). The Panthers run D ranked highly from 2002-2006 with veteran fronted lines.

Hayden and Landri are mediocre fringe players who might not even get a roster spot this year...and fronted the Panthers porous run defense last year (ranked #23 in 2010, #22 in 2009, #20 in 2008, #18 in 2007 in YPG allowed). Fox's inability to develop DT's is the primary reason for the steady decline of the Panthers run defense. How you come up with "outstanding" with those stats is a mystery...

To simply answer the question..if Corey Irvinis cut... We'll just move on... The dude is at the bottom of the depth chart for a reason. I'm pretty sure it's time to cut sling load with this guy...we'll see though.

Ummmmm.........he was cut at last year's training camp. He's just assigned to the practice squad. This is an old thread from last season.

I know that... Like I said... Time to cut sling load... At the bottom of the chart for a reason (practice squad) bring in a vet and slide someone else to the practice squad.

I can't believe u tried to play me like I didn't know what I was talking about.

Yeah, that's kind of the point.

Besides the run defense wasn't terrible this year. We only gave up 3.9 yards per carry, tied for seventh. Teams just ran it 32 times a game against us because they were always leading.

Kindal Moorehead started 12 games for us in 2004, and Carstens started 15 in 2005. In 04, we were average against the run, and in 05 we were great against the run. I don't know why it matters that they were surrounded by veterans. Our two worst years against the run with Fox were 08 and 09, when the line was made up of veterans.

Besides, the guy you brought up, Jovan Haye, played at DE while he was here. I'm not blaming Fox for some borderline guy going somewhere else, changing positions, and developing into a starter.

I think the fact that Fox could plug in guys like Moorehead, Carstens, Landri, and Johnson for whole seasons and still be average or better against the run is impressive. You apparently feel like he should have taken late round guys and turned them into full time starters.

That pick has to be near the top of the Hall of Shame picks for us in the past several years.

The objectional point of view is....

While he has failed to live up to expectations, players of the bubble , tend to get washed out during a coaching change. He'll get a chance to earn a spot, but only during training camp.
