Don't Overestimate the Teams Loyalty to Delhomme

I know Jake has made more than his share of mistakes and the coaching was weak to say the least , but I think the bye week probably had more to do with our performance last Saturday night than anything. The last four or five games of the season our offense was starting to really sync. I think it really threw things off. Remember! We weren't the only top seeded team to fall last weekend. It's turned into the homefield disadvantage.

He'll be here. All joking aside, we probably don't have anything better on the roster and he's got the chemistry thing well in his favor.

All that's happened is that he (Delhomme) burned a LOT of fan goodwill with his last game. His first awful game next year (and this is Jake, he has 4 or 5 a season) he's going to get booed more and it will snowball some from there. He'll be remembered a long time for his disaster of a game even when he's playing decently.

Steve loves Jake. Don't tell him he doesn't have good QB throwing to him. :frown2:

Unless you want nose surgery.

Then me and Steve Smith are gonna have to throw hands then because he doesnt have a good QB throwing to him. I love 89 as much as the next man, but this is bigger than him. This is about the FUTURE OF THE FRANCHISE. 89 just like Jake wont play here forever. This decision shouldnt be based on what 89 wants, it should be based on whats best for the team. And whats best for the team is to upgrade the QB position.

bah....jake will be back. the loss wasn't his fault. the whole team played like crap. players missed blocks. the defense let fitz have 150 yard in the first half. the playcallers ignored the running game. everyone went into panic stage quickly because the TEAM was not prepared. They based their whole planning on what arizona did during th regular season. that team that we played the first time was what htey were planning to play the second time.

the team that made matt ryan look like a chump was what they should have been planning for. no one believed in the cardinals and when that happens to a team in the playoffs they become the most dangerous team.

We lost to the cardinals. Jake played poorly like many others on the team but what really happened is the team that was prepared and better on that field won. They forced jake and the rest of the team to panic by playing lights out foot ball. we didn't make them look like winners on the day....they did.

by the way, just because schefter supposed that something could be the case doesn't mean it's anywhere close to being true. that was just an opinion. he didn't get that from any inside sources.

I just think Steve may know a good QB better than us. He works with the guy everyday, so he knows what throws are hail mary's and what was praticed execution. There are only so many ways to get #89 the ball with the coverage they put on him and throwing those "hail mary's" that people hate so much is one way. QB can be improved on. But it probally won't be next year. We got Moore or we can try and find an unknown. But they are huge question marks for a team looking to the playoffs.

I can see him returning next year and even starting - but I can also see him getting benched if he does poorly a la Rodney Peete. And if that guy does what he did, I can see him with a clipboard the rest of the season. I think it would take a really bad performance to bench him though.

It doesn’t matter if the fans trust Delhomme; they’re not the ones playing with him every Sunday. For that matter, last offseason’s personnel changes were not done to excite the fans, but to better the team. Naturally, the fans would be excited at any effort to do so.

If the fans had as large an impact as you think they do, Jake Delhomme would probably be gone by now. In fact, Matt Moore would have started all of last season, as would DeAngelo Williams.

Agreed. The minute Jake has a poor performance directly leading to a loss, I think you’ll see Moore or McCown in. That may not even be a move for the rest of the season, but rather a “lighting of the assfire” a la Donovan McNabb this year.

I blame the bye week more than anything. Seriously. What did the team do with that week? Screw their trophy wives?!! Go on vacations. Seems they didn't think one bit about the upcoming game, and in a game as big as divisional round playoffs they should have studied the cards twice as much. They all got off their game. Coaches and Players.

Also. Eli's qb rating was only a couple points higher than Jakes this past weekend, and he is reigning superbowl mvp. Do Giants fans want to cast him out?

Don't hate on him too hard.

I mean, how many games has Jake brought us back to tie or win a game?

13, last i checked. He's one of the few QB's I would love to have in the last 2 minutes of the game. But I do wish he could play the WHOLE game like he does those last 2 or 3 minutes.

There's not too many QB's out there that we can replace him with. Most of the teams that actually have a better QB aren't going to be willing to trade them, unless we give up some of our big names.

We are stuck with him for now so quit with the whining. Unless you propose we start McCown or Moore...good luck with that.

    • Really?  Back to this again? How many times have I said that I’d prefer to trade back from #1? Too many to count, but as I’ve pointed out, that’s going to be much easier said than done, as once we signal we want to trade back, teams will know we don’t want any of the QBs and they’d target the 2nd pick in a trade instead. All of my “T-Mac at #1” talk has been discussed under two circumstances… the first being that no QB or DE pop before the draft, and that we can’t trade back. But again, I know you don’t like to actually read that stuff when I say it, as I’ve said it numerous times.
    • Thanks for posting this. While this was far from a great performance, this critique shows what some of us noticed last week. Bryce played "a little better". There is some talent there. But, as you pointed out we really don't have a great pass blocking line for dropping back each down when we are behind. BY has got some bad habits and physical limitations. At times his teammates let him down. The play calling isn't always the best. I hope he can learn from last week and show us some improvement in the Saints game.
    • Oh, and yes, I’d take a WR first in this upcoming draft, but again, that’s not in a vacuum I wouldn’t have taken him over the QBs this past year or likely the ones next year either. It’s all relative to who is available in a specific draft, and I don’t think any of the QB’s are worth the risk at #1 this year. Also the fact that you’ve said you would take T-Mac #2 but scoff at him going #1 is just in itself, super weird.  How you can justify a player at #2 but not #1 solely because of their position and with complete disregard to the other players available, is absolutely crazy town talk
