Panthers sign few players to practice squad

Panthers signed RB DeCori Birmingham, WR Kevin McMahon, T Jonathan Palmer, DE Casper Brinkley, DT Lorenzo Williams, S Joe Fields, LB Jeremy Leman, and DT Patrick McDonald to reserve/futures contracts.

Birmingham spent the 2008 season on the Panthers practice squad. He's not going to see time at running back, but kick returning could be in his future.

Jones IMO has earned his spot as a returner. He's not super fast but he finds holes and got us a lot of decent returns this year (and more importantly mistake free).

Definitely. It’s just frustrating to see him bust a beat just about everyone on the field only to be taken down by the kicker.

But I think he’ll progress even further, and I’d take good, consistent field position over the rare return for a touchdown any day. Still, I hope he gets a little faster over the offseason.

During that last game, I found myself thinking - if that was Steve Smith, those 2 good returns would have been touchdowns. Steve's got that turbo button that he pushes and no one can catch him. Mark Jones does not have a turbo button. I still like him back there though.

I agree. I dont have any complaints about Jones really, he did better than I expected honestly. Smitty and Deangelo need to show him how to stiff arm a mother f*cker though.

I think he has earned the right to compete for the position again, Robinson brings more as a return man and as a receiver. Roster spots are valuable.

Goings should be gone this season and Birmingham should be our third running back. I'm pleased with how Mark Jones has handle returns, but wouldn't mind seeing Birmingham get a shot at it.

I'm also somewhat excited about Casper Brinkley.

The law of Fox loyalty prohibits the team from cutting Goings.

I think he has to suck 1 more year, than it becomes possible.

    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
    • I would say maybe 8 in a tier by themselves and all but 2 where picked in the top of the first allen pat m stroud burrow jackson hurts (maybe) Herbert Stafford
