We've talked about this some before.

Quick roster analysis:

Steve Smith - obviously the number one guy

Dwayne Jarrett - this offseason was his opportunity to show he was worth the draft pick; he hasn't

Kenny Moore - even if Jarrett doesn't make it, I don't think Moore sticks

Brandon LaFell -PS eligible, but unlikely; getting better, for sure, but going into the season with him as the number two still scares me

Armanti Edwards - PS eligible, but I said previously I think he'll make the 53 man roster but be inactive early

Charly Martin - leading candidate for the "Karl Hankton' role with Wallace Wright out for the year

David Gettis - PS eligible, and probably the most likely candidate

Trent Guy - PS eligible or could be an IR stash due to hamstring issues

As I understand the rules, neither Kenny Moore nor Charly Martin is practice squad eligible (could be wrong, but don't think so). Thus, we have four guys that are eligible, but only two realistic candidates (Guy, Gettis) since no one believes Edwards or LaFell will be left off the active roster. If there's a third possibility, I imagine it'd have to be Dexter Jackson, Oliver Young or a cut from someone else.

Said elsewhere that I think Jarrett's fate probably hinges on who comes available in final cuts. If there's an upgrade that the Panthers can get, then he's gone (maybe traded, more likely cut). If not, then he gets one more shot to prove himself. The question then would be how long that shot lasts. If the early games go badly, does the team pull the trigger on a trade, or do they give him the full season?

It's pretty much always true that even after final cuts, things can still be very fluid. It's especially true these days with the rules that essentially lead teams to wait until week two before they'll look to pick up a veteran.

The "bubble" receiver that still interests me the most is Deion Branch (Deon Butler from the same team is also a possible). Someone like Michael Clayton is more likely, but i can't say that prospect produces much enthusiasm.

There are some guys I wouldn't mind trading for...maybe a 4th or 5th round pick. A guy like Jordy Nelson, limas sweed, or even Mario manningham. These guys are third or fourth receivers on their respective teams but could push to start for us. I would love manningham...he would be ideal.

This. But I don't think NY would release him with Sinorice Moss on IR.

Manningham's just never registered much on my radar.

If we got (potential) Giants castoff, Ramses Barden is huge, but very raw.

The memory I get of Manningham is when we played NY last year and he fumbled on their opening drive. Seems isolated but it seemed as if he was coming into his own. I need to look up his stats to see what kind of numbers he put up and to see if he was consistent.
