Jarrett's in the last year of his contract, and I feel pretty confident the Panthers won't be resigning him.

So if we go with Smith, LaFell, and then pick up another receiver who (I'm assuming) is a better option than Jarrett, then that will leave the remaining receivers with very little targets. Why keep Jarrett in that role if we've got some other guys (Moore, Edwards, Gettis, etc.) that may have more of a future than Jarrett?

we are only talking about 2010. And I am only talking about why Moore doesn't make sense over Jarrett. Moore hasn't looked better than Jarrett and neither appear to be worth a damn past this season.

Not even close

Lafell as a rookie actuall does a few things better:

1) Learns the play book

2) Lines up correctly

3) Runs correct routes

4) Get separation

5) Averages more than 5.8 yards per catch

1- how do you know he learns the playbook better? how do you know he runs the correct routes? Pretty sure there was something grossly wrong on that play last game.

5 - Moore and LaFell have a better yard per catch....they also have made some fluke catches and missed ones that are inexcusable. Jarrett has done his part and could easily be leading every statisticall aspect if Moore hit him while wide open and Gross didn't get a bogus penalty. Jarrett has quietly looked the best this preseason.

Moore has his faults, but my point is if you're going to give either Jarrett or Moore the benefit of the doubt, why not give it to the guy who hasn't been here three years?

An NFL team never thinks only about the season at hand. Moose is probably still a better option as a No. 2 than anyone on the roster, but he's not here anymore. I really think he gives us a better chance to win now, but if we kept him on the roster, it would've been one more year where another young guy is unable to step up or even make the roster.

What a sad state of affairs when, and if, our front office is going to use the waiver wire of players other teams are trying to stash on their practice squads to upgrade our WR core

Why is that sad? If we didn't do that, we wouldn't have Moore or Sutton right now.

It's hard to believe as a Panthers fan, but there are teams out there that are deep at the receiver position. We'd be foolish not to look into these players.

well, if the best case scenario is they are only here for 2010, why not give it to the guy who looks like he can contribute the most in 2010. Moore can't be on the field for 2 WR base sets with operate out of. Jarrett can b/c he can block. Plus, Jarrett has just been the overall better WR through preseason.

Its pretty obvious the majority of first and second year NFL receivers have out performed ours this preseason. So, pick the best of that group and its an upgrade.

If this were to actually happen,it would certainly be some of the best news i've heard lately.
