Interesting email this morning....

Wasnt there some talk of Patrick Crayton being released or something a month back or so?

Yeah I heard that too. He would be my first choice. He is an exceptional blocker and has proven that he can run routes and make catches out of the #2 spot or the slot.

I still want LaFell on the field though. I'm sick of drafting guys, seeing them not live up to hype during their first camp and then never getting on the field to try to prove themselves again...

Zod's orignial post mentioned it would be somebody placed on the practice squad, not a veteran. So if this were to happen it's not going to be a solid vet who can come in and be the # 2 guy. So if anything I think it would be a number 3 at best. Nothing to exciting imo.

if that is the case, then it is pointless to talk about. Another project that won't be ready to play week 1 at the level required out of the position.

Ive noticed quite a few teams that have had guys that won't make the team because they simply have too many good wr's I can't remember names but off the top of my head.

Green Bay, Dallas, New Orleans, and Indy of the top of my head are teams that I was thinking this while watching them play.

Makes a lot of sense to take the leftovers from teams that are obviously exponentially better at drafting wr's than we are.

teams that spread the ball out tend to have a lot of WRs have some success.......ask those guys to come in and work in 2 WR sets in this offense is another thing imo. I'd pick Jarrett up if I ran a lot of 3-4 WR sets in a heartbeat.

I don't want a preseason wonder or young body. If Carolina is going to bring in a guy they need a proven NFL player. One we know can play at the NFL level and learn the system quick.

also one that can work in our 2 WR sets and can get his seperation in that type system.

i'm sure one of those guys is going to be hitting the WW soon.

They were saying on First Take this morning that Malcolm Kelly and Devin Thomas both could be jettisoned from Washington in the first or second cuts. I would take Devin Thomas as our #2 over anybody we have currently.

Malcolm Kelly was put on IR I believe

Zod, I've said several times since the game Saturday how I think WR will break down:

IN:

Smitty, obviously

LaFell

Edwards

Guy

Gettis

Tweeners/Out:

Jarrett

Moore

Martin

Now, I think Guy is more in the Tweener category b/c of the injuries... Now you get this news... How do you think it's gonna break down with the guys we have as of right now?

I'd also like to point out that I find it a bit pathetic that we are waiting to go after a PS guy to sign him to our active roster so he can actually be our 2nd-4th WR...

Guys I would actually be excited about:

Any of the guys from the Bengals - ESPECIALLY - Jerome Simpson, he has looked GREAT everytime I've watched him this preseason and actually against 1st stringers. Also, Shipley, M. Jones, and Caldwell. Any of those guys could help us exponentially.

Several of the lower end guys from Jax:

Tiquan Underwood, Dillard, etc.

Vikings:

M. Mitchell

And again, I don't know why we don't bring Kevin Curtis in for the Vet. Min.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head for now...

Vikings cut Mitchell yesterday :)

I would think Crayton may be a good guess to either be traded or released coupled with our requirements for a good blocker, has speed, and can get seperation.I really do not think that Jarret or Lafell has shown that they will be a reliable number 2.We can hide a couple of our new guys on the PS.

I realize JR is cutting expenses but he cannot be blind to the fact we have a great defense but to get to the playoffs we need to upgrade that postion.Based on Smiths remarks and cuttiing 2 wrs placing one on IR I think they make a play for a Crayton caiber player.

Please JR no more projects!
