Why would we have to trade Pep?

If we franchise him we get him for that year. He could refuse to sign, but then it would cost him. Many teams have gone through this before. They franchise the guy he b*tches a little, refuses to sign then signs before the season starts. It happend with Briggs just a couple years ago. Now he is a happy Bear, after saying he would never play for them again. I really do not see Peppers pulling any of these stunts. It is a business, and if it is better business for us to keep him our FO will keep him. We are known for low-balling players, I dont think we have really tried to sign him. I think they were just feeling him out before, but this is all me hoping for his return.

he has a contract from the panthers, in front of him, that would make him the highest paid defensive player in the league. Thats not low-balling and not "feeling him out". In fact the panthers will pay and have paid big contracts in the past.

If he hasn't signed yet he wants something else or someplace else. If we franchise him and he plays, we have him for the one year. After that he can walk to any team with the 17 million that we will have paid him. We want to franchise him and control where he goes...we dont want him to go to any NFC South team or even any NFC team preferably. The franchise tag and trade allows us to do that.

I doubt Peppers would complain. Some fear he might revert back to his 2007 productivity but that would be stupid because he will turn 30 next year and he needs to show teams he can still play at a high level in case the Panthers decide to let him walk down the road.

If we had another above average DE on the roster, losing Pep would not hurt so bad but we don't. In fact many would say our other DE's as a whole are below average in talent.

I dont know? I dont think we have offered him a contract making him the highest paid D player. I think that is all rumors, but what do I know. Well if its true than I hope we do trade him so we could get something I guess, but our DL will really suck next year.

We have offered Pep that deal, but the reasons he hasn't signed have nothing to do him wanting to play elsewhere.

Pep wants changes in our defensive scheme. This is why Mike Trgovac's days are numbered.

I hope you're right, I really really do.

One of the easiest ways for a coach to lose a team is to let the desires of one or a few players control the hiring/firing of personell. Hurney and Fox have to be the ones who want to make the change first. Then if the players approve, it is a bonus. Otherwise you are asking for trouble.

If you don't want him in the NFC south or the NFC...Houston Texans is neither one..lol. We want him here with Mario.

I wouldnt mind seeing some 3-4 with Pep as an outside rusher like Ware or how Jason Taylor played at Miami when they altered schemes in each game

If they offered Peppers a deal and he hasn't sign, I would think it has everything to do with him wanting to skip town. A Defensive scheme that he is not down with would be a reason that he wants to skip town. the panthers defense can't be that bad for them to finish with the record they have. I heard Peppers likes Texas BBQ:o

However, another way for a coach to lose a team is to stick with a defensive scheme that has been generally ineffective and a coordinator who's ill-prepared to make things better. If Fox and Hurney don't see the need to make changes to a defense that has steadily regressed since Del Rio left a few years ago, then I wouldn't blame Pep for wanting to go elsewhere (and no, I'm not saying Del Rio should come back).
