Jake "sooner or later" Delhomme

This board just gets worse and worse by the day.

YOu put your faith in a clown like that and keep making excuses for him year in and year out and eventually THIS is what you get.

Enjoy JSers.

"but, but, but, he took us to the super bowl"

"but, but, but, he has great playoff stats"

"but, but, but, he and Smitty have great chemistry"

I was relegated to the press box Saturday night because another on staff wanted the field and considering the weather forecast, the high possibility for a decent buffet and sports celebs in the box,I switched. With not long to go in the 2nd the place turned into a funeral and was about as depressing a place as I have ever been. During most games or their replay I take notes to document points in the game and how they initially hit me. Here are mine for the game. Pardon the childishness, I don't do this for a living and I was pretty pissed off.

The Panthers start off with a bang going 50 in 5 plays. A big run from Deangelo Williams for 31 yards sets up his counterpart Jonathan Stewart for a quick opening score to set the tone. Kurt Warner takes over early with his first chance and after a long 31 yard play to Fitzgerald, the Panthers step up for a huge stop behind two huge plays by Damione Lewis and then Julius Peppers. The resulting punt however leaves the Panthers deep in their own territory and the conservative running attack sputters after three plays. So the Panthers punt and put the ball back in Warner's hands and he quickly gets the Cards inside the ten with help from Larry Fitzgerald. The resulting score, a 3 yard pass to Tim Hightower ties the score and sets the tone for what is shaping up to be a shootout. Of course if you cough the ball up on your own 20 as Jake Delhomme promptly does with his 3rd possession. A shootout becomes less and less a reality. C'mon Jake! Edgerrin James catches a pass to get within the 5 and then runs in for the score on the next play. 14-7 Arizona. Not a desirable situation early. The Panthers will start at the 23 and quickly get to the 38 as Jake throws a strike to Moose. You just cannot cover Steve Smith. He gets loose deep and gets molested by Rolle at the 15. Smitty had him beat and I guess all that smack talk by Antrel just festered as an agonizing lump in his throat.

The rains starts. The first quarter ends.

And Jake, yes PLAYOFF Jake throws a pick to give the ball back. Piss poor Jake. Piss poor. A fumble inside the 20 followed by a pick in the red zone. Delhomme is known to have a stinker game without warning and this is shaping up to be one of those so far. Great timing Jake. Thanks. And now, seemingly inspired by their "fiery" leader the defense makes a mental error and gives Kurt a free pass on 3rd and 4 with and encroachment penalty. Marshall blows up and gives up a personal foul and escorts Kurt and company to the Carolina 37. This is not how home teams are supposed to play this time of year. Edge seems to be gaining momentum. The time of possession is not leaning the right way at all. Things need to turn around in a hurry. Rackers pops a 49 yarder in and the struggling Panthers find themselves down 17-7 early in the 2nd. A heaping dose of Steve Smith is in order. Something. Anything. If it does not happen soon it may be too late. It would be easy to say that the game is shaping up like the earlier game in Charlotte against Arizona but that is not true. In this game Jake Delhomme is personally responsible for 10 points by NOT taking care of the football. You just cannot give a potent offense like this those kinds of opportunities over and over. I hope Jake is listening. The Cardinal defense is standing up. Jake Delhomme continues to lie down. Even with a penalty in their favor this drive they just cannot seem to make a first down. PUNT. Cardinals ball at their 38. Panther defense needs to make a stand here or this thing is gonna get out of hand in a hurry. How in the hell can Larry Fitzgerald be open EVERY SINGLE PLAY? Cards at the Panthers 22. Only a matter of time now before this one gets ugly. Warner is dragging the Panther D up and down the field at will. This is embarrassing. A measurement. Cards are short. Rackers knocks another through to make it 20-17. 5:28 left in the half. The Cards get the ball first after halftime. The press room is very quiet and doom is very apparent. Nothing is going the way of the cats. Mark Jones has been waiting for a view of the endzone all year and when he finally gets it the kicker, Neil Rackers punishes him. Oh yeah. Jake Delhomme just threw another pick on a pass that had no chance of finding anyone in a black jersey. Thanks again Jake. You suck. Touchdown Fitzgerald. The second half is not necessary. Some Press are actually leaving.

At least they missed Jake dropping back giving 9 pump fakes and getting sacked and then loading up with 10 pump fakes to throw it into double coverage and narrowly avoid yet another pick. Did I mention that Jake Delhomme sucks? Long delay here. Adding insult to injury--no adding injury to insult, Landon Johnson gets carted off the field with what looks to be a serious leg issue. It just keeps getting better. I wish every Panther fan who has thrown "Jake took us to the Superbowl" could witness their hero's body language on the sideline. He doesn't look like someone kicked his puppy. He looks like the puppy who got kicked. Bring in McCown. Hell, bring in David Carr! He could comb his hair and try on cool pairs of gloves on the sideline. It would be just as productive. Maybe moreso.

Halftime. Major Boos. They should call this one now. At least the Richardson family will wee an increase in heavy liquor sales on the club level. That will be the only positive for this franchise tonight.

Oh my God they forced a punt. Carolina takes over at their own ten. What will Jake do now? The atmosphere in this press box is akin to the mood at a funeral.

Williams a first down! Jake throws a complete pass! For 3 yards! Tackle for loss. Sorry Jake. there goes your 3. Jake rallies to float one over the middle incomplete to end the drive. Punt. Hey it's better than another INT. Kurt's ball. Take notes Jake. Beason picks Kurt at the Panther 31. Several people in the section below this big window just got awakened. Jake throws another pick. Several more laptops just got packed up. Good night sweetheart. Maybe next year. I am gonna take the remaining garbage time to take special notice of John Kasay on the sideline. My feeling is that this is his last few moments in a panther uniform and his service deserves to be commended. Oh. Wait. Larry Fitzgerald catches another pass and Kurt and company are at the Panther 15...again. The Panthers hold and Rackers racks up some more points for the Cards. 30-7. Jake sets up at his 33 down by 23. He has 31 yards on the night, 3 interceptions and a lost fumble to his credit. Now he hits two receivers right away for 25 yards. 2nd and 10 at the 42 1/2. 4 and out from there. I am watching John Fox very closely. He is holding a large white towel and appears to be wanting to toss it in the field of play. He thinks better of it and watches hid defense force another punt. Jake sets up again at the 20. He still sucks. Finally Smith gets his first catch of the game with 30 seconds in the third quarter to go and Carolina rolls into Cardinal territory. A Rosario catch gets them down to the Arizona 26.

End of third. Lots of action in the aisles.

They drive to the 10 but then Jake throws his fourth pick. Thanks Jake! After a fizzled attempt by Arizona, Jake, yes still Jake, sets up at the 31. Is that a first down? Holy crap was that a screen pass? Jake almost throws a 5th. It was dropped. Run clock run. There it is. Number 5 for Jake. History is being made. Jake Delhomme sucks. Kurt has the ball again at the 50. The stands are emptying with nine and a half minutes left at a home playoff game in Charlotte. Pathetic.

I'm packing it in. Can't watch anymore. See ya next year Panthers. I can't wait.

Did you see any celebs?

Nope.

I got there early too. If they were already hiding out in their little nooks and crannies they were probably gone before I got out of there.

It was bad.

I have seem John Clayton and Jaws up there in the past. Not real celebs but sports notables is really what I was hoping to see. Maybe I used the wrong word there.

Hell I saw more faces at the Carolina Wake game Sunday night than in Charlotte.
