The team having not gone out and picked up an RB3 has me thinking that they're going to take one from this deep draft class. It will give them competition for RB2 if JB comes back the following year while giving the team a true three-headed monster in the backfield. Chuba's contract is also set up to allow for his release following this season (2026: $2M saved, 2027: $6M saved, 2028: $9M saved), so there's some moneyball that can be played as well by drafting another RB.

It was absolutely a mistake. It was a weak RB draft vs this one. He was an injured player in that draft and then he got injured again after 9 rushing attempts. That's not bad luck but bad betting. They also had Chubba and Sanders which is already showing that they were cool with burning 1 year minimum on a injured player so he was never really going to help with the QB play until deep into the year at best (maybe they should have sat him the entire year?). There was meaningful talent at positions that are still position of needs they could have taken with that pick. It was a bad bet and a bad pick. He has 2 years out of 4 left to change that but then he has to stay healthy enough to play which is something he is 0 for 2 on currently.

Yep. There will be several contributing RBs drafted in day three this year. One of them needs to be in Carolina. I'm not saying they'll be stars or starters but they'll be solid NFL players for years.

A contributer on a 4 year deal after round 3 is golden IMO. It would be great to see the team draft to the strength of a draft. I honestly can't remember when we did last time.

I think it was 3 picks.  We gave away 3 but got one back.  According to Linville, the 2 extra 5ths were just dart throws anyway.

I, for one, was ok spending a high pick on RB.  It was a shallow draft at RB and we needed a good one.  At the time, Chubba was ok (3.8 ypc) with questionable hands.  Sanders was not good.  So we drafted the consensus best RB in  a shallow class (i.e. not as many good choices as usual).

This is a deep RB draft.  My understanding is that means there are a lot of good NFL-level RBs.  But has the need for RBs increased significantly from last year to this year league-wide?  If not, it makes sense some some really good RBs will fall and may not even get drafted.  Its just supply and demand.

It would seem like a mismanagement of the draft not to come out of this draft with an EDGE, DT, and RB. We aren't fixing all of our holes in one off-season. What this draft lacks in perceived elite talent it makes up for in depth at quite a few positions groups.

DT, Edge, CB, WR, RB all needs and all deep.

The more I watch of them the more I like both Iowa State WRs as 2nd round options for us.
