Not sold on Moore

5) Jake Delholmme -- Believe it or not, I never really cared for the guy a bunch, but I kind of miss the guy. Atleast we knew who we were with him around. The Delholmme era you might say.

Sorta lost me right here. Fug Delhomme!!!!!

Matt Montana needs better consistency. Even though I expect us to make the playoffs, I just feel like it's one of those years where we all know exactly what the problem is (No #2 WR, Foxball, Horrible Special Teams) like we knew the year before and it costs us later on.

Doesn't sound like you support Jimmy. The correct statement is: I support whomever the coaches put out there.

I think it's gross that this board is so divided between two of our very own players. Oh well. It ain't going to change.

Why do you say that?

Did you miss the statement, I support all panthers?

Now you going to incinuate I meant something different?

Maybe you should read before ya hit the quote button. Helps sometimes.

I do support whomever the coach puts on the field.

Guess who that is....gasp! It's Moore!

Why would they put a 3 year vet who is also a winner, in over the chosen one?!?!

Maybe cause no matter the pedigree, he's still a rook.

Once again, I support all Panther players. Maybe you should try doing the same.

I've spent the past two days watching our preseason games thus far. I've watched every play at least twice and every passing play three to five times. Yes I am that bored I've been working on the road and living in hotels for 6 months. I did this to gain perspective on both the QB's and WR's. The D I watched for fun.

Here are my findings on the QB situation.

Matt: Goes through a progression on almost every pass play that isn't a designed quick out. However, he generally only reads half the field but that is common for young QB's. Really needs to learn to use the pump fake to move the D to create passing lanes. He goes out of his way to make sure the ball is placed where only his reciever can get it. This often results in plays that the receiver can't get to either. (to high or to far in front)

The upside to this is that they rarely have a chance to be intercepted and he almost never throws behind his receiver; throws behind are way more likely to be intercepted kinda like Jake Delhomme's biggest issue. Bottom line of his preseason play. When we have let him throw and his receivers didn't drop passes that they should have caught, we moved the ball. He actually made a lot more third and long throws than I thought he did the first time I watched the games. Mostly game 3. He is obviously getting better every game and so are our young receivers minus Jarrett who I was still a supporter of up until now. (He really doesn't even try to run routes unless he is the primary receiver.)

Jimmy. The kid looks great under center. His eye for the defense is better than any rookie I have ever seen. Plays with heart and believes that he can lead the team to the endzone. In everything else though his inexperience is pretty obvious. He goes through a progression in most pass plays but appears to only read the middle of the field. You can actually pick out his progression on most plays. WR only if a crossing route is being utilized, then TE, then checkdown to the back. Almost every play. If I can see it you can be damn sure DC's will see it. Has a really accurate throw and puts good zip on the ball. Tries to hit everyone in the numbers; typical college mentality, NFL receivers have to learn to catch with their hands because most of the time if the ball hits them in the numbers then the DB has a shot at it. Bottom line, Jimmy just needs time to develop to keep from being a rookie turnover machine and possibly killing his confidence and possibly his career. He sure looks the part of a future elite QB if developed properly.

Very nice analysis, but I'm particularly glad someone else notices this. Jarrett seriously looks like he's jogging out there on some plays. It's time to cut him and give some of these young guys a shot.

I agree btw Gettis looked to be busting his a** on every play. Both blocking and running good routes. Guy was right there with him but started limping shortly after the half of game 3. Im smelling practice squad for him based on the lingering hammy issue. Off topic I know sorry.

I've said it time and time again, the problem we have here in Carolina at the QB is one that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Within the next two seasons, we will have our franchise guy and be in a better position to win ball games. Whether that man is Moore or Clausen, it's too early to tell. All I know is, sooner than later we will have our guy that many of us have longed for since Jake started his downward spin to rock bottom.

I am all for Moore getting the starts he has earned. Jimmy should be groomed over-time until his confidence and his skill are on par together. This QB battle is going to be memorable to watch unfold.

Didn't even get throuh the original post.

And why should anybody?

Seriously, ya say ya not sold on Moore, but ya have more confidence in a rookie who really hasn't played well enough for there to be a qb competition.

Yea I couldn't read this mess either. It doesn't matter if anyone is sold or not, he is the starting QB. Our only other reasonable option is a rookie, how could you be sold on him right now either?

Putting my thoughts on Moore in a paraphrased Ric Flair line:

Whether you like him or you hate him, you better learn to love him because he is the best thing going today.

I honestly think the nature boy would slap you right in the face for saying that.

FAIL.

Its early and an maybe everyone is right and Moore can do this, but watching closely at this last game, I'm really, really not so sure. Maybe I was seeing things, but he seemed to stare down a ton of his recievers. I'm not sure but defenses ussually don't triple team a reciever, so how the heck did that guy get triple covered if the defense didn't know it was coming way in advanced. Alot of people are saying are recievers are doing a really poor job out there, and when smith gets back it will be better. This is true, but come on its not just them. Yep its hard to get open when you suck as a reciever, and even harder if the QB's staring your direction. Then again, I'm getting old and blind, maybe I'm just seeing things.

I saw this too in person and, no, all the throws were not quick outs. Moore often stared down the receiver especially in game 3. LaFell was one that managed to get good separation while MM stared at him. Wright was the other. I don't remember MM doing that last year.

I fully support any player John Fox puts out there.

I think Moore is just more frustrated right now with the way the O-Line's playing, no Steve smith or any other WR that could come close to duplicating Smitty or Moose from last season, and no TD yet.

But things will come together, and he's been keeping his cool a lot better than I thought. We are just missing a few key components, and Week 1 will be a big game for us IMO.

ditto! You sum the situation up completly and very throughly.
