Not sold on Moore

Hey I've read the forums forever, but rarely post, so forgive me for posting another Matt Moore thread. In panther history, I've maybe not seen like 2 games, so I'm a huge fan, but I'm not really looking foeard to this season. Anyone remember the Collin, Weike, and Pete years? They all seem to blend together on me, but I do remember these wonderful defenses we had, but could not score freaking TD's to save our lives. You guys remember when we did win, it was because we manage to score a whole bunch of field goals?

So I got off the subject for a bit, but Moore really reminds me of a Weike type QB. I rememember all the fans we so excited about the guy, he would be our savior from the broke-jawed Collins memories. Didn't really work out that way.

Its early and an maybe everyone is right and Moore can do this, but watching closely at this last game, I'm really, really not so sure. Maybe I was seeing things, but he seemed to stare down a ton of his recievers. I'm not sure but defenses ussually don't triple team a reciever, so how the heck did that guy get triple covered if the defense didn't know it was coming way in advanced. Alot of people are saying are recievers are doing a really poor job out there, and when smith gets back it will be better. This is true, but come on its not just them. Yep its hard to get open when you suck as a reciever, and even harder if the QB's staring your direction. Then again, I'm getting old and blind, maybe I'm just seeing things.

If I had a vote (and I don't :P ) , I would love to see Matt start the season, but win or lose, Jimmy take the focus on taking over the team. I guess that makes me a Jimmy fanboy, which is funny, because until we drafted him, I really didn't know much about the guy. I only really pay attention to SEC in college ball. On the other hand, does anyone else find it exciting that we have this drafted this guy that we can mold into the face of our franchise? Heck I got to go down this list.

1) Kerry Collins -- Oh my gosh, He could have been the guy (until he got his jaw broke), He did give us our first championship game. He broke my heart I'm afraid though.

2) Steve Beuerlein -- I loved him as a Qb, but he never really felt like he was ours. Something about him losing his starting job at jacksonville to Mark. It always felt like he was jacksonville's seconds to me.

3) Chris Weinke -- I bought the hype on this guy. I was dead wrong. The build up of this guy before he actuallly lead us through a season, so much reminds me of thei Matt Moore stuff. Maybe thats why I'm not hot on Moore.

4) Peete -- Bah, just a guy to get us though a year when we had no one else.

5) Jake Delholmme -- Believe it or not, I never really cared for the guy a bunch, but I kind of miss the guy. Atleast we knew who we were with him around. The Delholmme era you might say.

6) ???? I have no clue who we are this year. Matt's the starter, but does anyone reallt think he is the future of the Panther? The Matt Moore era? or a Weinke/Peete get us through the season guy?

Heck, I can't see moore being the next big Panther QB, so I'm all for throwing Jimmy in win or lose. If it is going to be Jimmy's team, let it begin.

Well if you read through my ramble, thanks. You see why I only post once ever 2 yeats or so. Talk to you guys in a few more years, Later.

Drunk dialing, I mean posting is never a good thing. :P

I understand you on the concern for Moore. He really hasnt looked good the preseason. If the coaches keep it simple and dont expect him to win games for us I think we will be fine. We have Stewart and Williams who will do the hard work and score for us. With this defense we will keep the score low and just need to get 17 points a game.

Matt Moore hype? Like Weinke hype? Must be reading different stuff from me. Moore earned his position by winning last season (something that was foreign to Weinke). And most everyone--including the Panther's organization--are hedging their bets on Moore's success.

Though the offense has looked rough this preseason I think we'll see some improvement between now and games 2-3. They need some positive plays and they need playmakers to generate those plays. The leaders that create such plays haven't been on the field.

Williams' carries have been limited. We aren't pounding D-lines the way we do during the regular season. DWill & Stewart's numbers usually come after the D-lines have been softened by early, (often) low-yardage body blows. Our passing emphasis has limited this strategy.

Furthermore, Stewart, Smith (and Otah) haven't been on the field. Otah's a beast on that right side; let's not forget how he factors in. It's easier to pass protect when you're sitting at 2 and 5 or 3rd and 4 than when you're at 3rd and 11. Defenses can't pin their ears back.

You basically have a rookie WR corps across the board. I know K. Moore and Jarret aren't rookies but their playing time has been minimal. The rest of the crew ARE rookies. Moore didn't suddenly forget how to play. But a QB needs teammates to step up. All throws aren't going to be picture-perfect. They still need to be caught if they hit your hands (LaFell!); you have to run correct routes and the QB needs to trust WRs to make the correct reads on the fly. If Moore is guessing where the WR is going to go, he'll hold onto the ball longer and stare down a receiver. But this is less of an issue when Smitty is on the field. Moore trusts Smitty, he trusts Rosario. And both have come up big for Moore at different times. I think our first two games will show some improvements in all these areas.

Comparing the last game (preseason) with the run he had at the end of last year (regular season) is a mistake, and if you can't see the upside of having Moore start this year as opposed to Delhomme or an untested rookie then I can see why you aren't looking forward to this year...Fear not, though...if Moore craps the bed, then you weren't disappointed and Jimmy can move right in an hopefully not do worse....win..win..win...enjoy the 2010 season!

Putting my thoughts on Moore in a paraphrased Ric Flair line:

Whether you like him or you hate him, you better learn to love him because he is the best thing going today.

this.

Being honest..I'm not sold on him either. He's what we got to work with this season, so I'll support him. It is what it is...
