anyone thinking that we are going to find some legit receiver who gets cut by another team is in need of some serious anti-psychotic meds. if they are really worth keeping, they wouldn't be hitting the market at this point.

still i wouldn't count on finding anyone who would serve as a solid #2 WR or even someone all that much better than what we have already.

solid #2's aren't cut, they're kept. but as bad as we are, a #6 elsewhere might be a #2 for us.

Here are some WRs that could be on the roster bubble and end up being cut that we could take a look at:

Michael Clayton- Had a breakout year in 2004 but hasn't done much of anything after that. But I'll prob still take my chances on him over Jarrett.

James Hardy- Injuries have really derailed him and really hasn't shown anything. Most likely pass.

Malcolm Kelly- Has good hands and excellent size. The potential is there but never seems to be healthy.

Devin Thomas- This one is interesting. Has been inconsistent as a receiver and probably drops too many balls for our taste (we definately don't need anymore of that) but he has size and speed, is physical in the run game and can play special teams. Also doubles as a returner. Would be a good pickup for Wallace's spot.

Another possibility is taking a look at the Cowboys roster. They have Miles, Williams, and Bryant. Many believe Sam Hurd will be cut but I believe Dallas may opt to keep him as a cheaper alternative and cut Patrick Crayton. Crayton has also requested for a trade in the past. Maybe give up a late round draft choice? He would definately be a big upgrade to our WR corps and feel in nicely as our #2.

I'll take crayton over our #80 any day. Being forced fed the NFC east on NBC every sunday night for 3 years, I think I seen enough of the guy to justify a 6th rounder for him.

I'm all for giving the young guys a chance. But, we really need someone across from Smitty. As much as I want Jarrett to succeed, I also want the team to do so too. Jarrett just hasn't done anything to make me believe he will step up enough to be able to count on.

I wonder what exactly is jarretts problem..? He is really tall, haven't really heard of him dropping balls, I just never (EVER) see him on the field when it counts. Maybe he really couldn't hang with the big boys, and if there is no separation between him and an undrafted free agent rookie, then there is something not right with the kid.

The only thing Jarrett has going for him is his great hands and age as he is still incredibly young. But he just can't get his head on straight. 3 years in the league and he still can't grasp the playbook. That's just ridiculous. And on top of that I dont believe he runs good enough routes to justify for his speed. If you take a look at any WR that was slow you could see they were great route runners and just knew how to get open. Something I fail to see with Jarrett.

you know what makes me mad, is how watching the denver pitt game sunday night, the team went up and down each other's throats all game, like it was nothing, as stated before we may be looking at the worst depth chart in all of football barring an injury to ss.

I think Crayton would be an upgrade that would not cost us much.

Terrell Hudgins. Why I don't know but I have heard they are brining him in tomorrow.

I liked Hudgins as a late round flyer during the draft but I dont know how much of an improvment he would be. Where did you hear that they were bringing him in?

I'm convinced, this team is trying to prove a point by being cheap and no money will be spent. Unless a miracle falls in our lap, don't look for anything to happen.

I just feel sorry for Steve Smith. His days are numbered and he doesn't deserve to be a part of this project.

Right on the money. I'm in complete agreement. Look at Steve Smith's contract:

5/8/2007: Signed a six-year, $43.85 million contract. The deal included a $9.3 million signing bonus, a $6 million roster bonus in the second year, and a $2 million roster bonus in the third.

2010: $5.75 million

2011: $7 million

2012: $7.75 million

2013: Free Agent

This is his third year under the current contract and he's gathered all the non-salary money due. He'll make nothing in 2011 during the lockout and in 2012 when the league returns to work he'll be 33 years old and looking to collect $2M more per year then he's making now. Who actually thinks the Panthers are gonna pay that?

Sorry, I too think Steve Smith is in his last year in Carolina.
