Last season draft day trade

Ok this is a pertty much pointless thread but I thought I would share my thoughts concerning it.

Anyone think that maybe just maybe Fox and Hurney already knew Peppers was leaving and thus were not concerned with trading this years 1st round draft pick? They knew they would be able to get a first rounder in return - and a much lower one potentially - when they traded him at the end of this season.

They knew that, so they were not too concerned with losing the future pick as it allowed them to strengthen for this season and allow Peppers to go out in true style, riding the coat tails of a deep playoff run.

Just seems conincidental that if Peppers does go, we certainly will have a better draft pick in the first round AND we would have had our pick around 28ish. Why did we not just wait till this season to use both draft picks? Because Peppers, in their eyes, completed the team. They knew this was their real last chance as the DL was going to need serious work after he went and thus they traded around to get the help they needed elsewhere.

The way I see it they may almost be expecting just a mediocre season next year if Peppers leaves and thus made a bigger push this season to try and get to the big game.

Just my random thoughts...

That trade was to get back up and get Otah, which was because we knew the Gross situation would present itself this offseason.

Peppers will remain a Panther, folks...

I would hope so, but I tend to think not. I look for his agent to broker a trade right out of here if we franchise him.

I would like to agree with that but the simple fact is Otah is far far too raw to play at LT, he struggles as it is in pass protection at RT. I never really saw Otah as a replacement for Gross the moment Gross was proficient at the LT spot.

Personally I think we were holding out from giving Gross the big contract as we needed proof he could do it at LT. Since he has, I expect him to be locked up pretty soon.

Gross has made statements that seem to point to the fact that he's willing to lock it up, and wondered why the Panthers haven't done so thus far. I imagine once the Peppers deal is settled, or at least they know the direction they're taking with him, they'll ink Gross pretty quickly
