The sample of those who were studied included individuals between ages 55 and 65 who had had any kind of outpatient care in the previous three years. The 1,824 participants were followed for 20 years. One drawback of the sample: a disproportionate number, 63%, were men. Just over 69% of the never-drinkers died during the 20 years, 60% of the heavy drinkers died and only 41% of moderate drinkers died.

Moderate drinking is where it's at. A beer (or glass of wine, liquor, etc.) a day does have some health benefits. Studies have shown hops can prevent cancer, and other studies show beer can fight osteoporosis. Darker beers have more flavonoids than lighter beers, which can combat high blood pressure and cholesterol.

So long as you don't binge drink, I really feel that moderate drinking is pretty beneficial.

We are aware that having 5 or 6 drinks in one sitting is considered binge drinking. Not just drinking with the focus of getting intoxicated. Most of us here can agree that after 5 or 6 beers we're just getting started.

I'm a Physical Education and Health major. I now know that roughly 90% of all drinkers are, by definition, binge drinkers.

Yeah I really, really want to cut down. I just don't like being that hard on my body. Highschool/College skews the hell out of the concept known as "moderate drinking". 5-6 beers and I'm super proud that I took it easy.

Call me what you will, but I'm obsessed with beer and I don't drink anywhere near that much. I average a beer a night. Some nights I'll have more, but some nights I have none.

The most beers I'll have is four in a night. Now, keep in mind some of those beers will be around 10% ABV, so that's basically two beers in one. So actually, every now and then I guess I do have the equivalent of six drinks -- but not too often. Usually just one a night. I drink frequently, but in moderation. ;)

I don't think we drank together in high school/college.

    • Honestly Bryce is a conundrum right now I'm not really sure what we should do with him but I am content on him being the quarterback number one going into next season. I think we should allow him the chance to play out the season to prove that he's the quarterback he can be going into next season.  I would not waste a high draft pick on a quarterback because I'm not sure anyone in this up and coming class is as good or has the ceiling that he had with that said I wouldn't throw away the future I would bring in someone like Justin Fields to have him looking over his shoulder and give us a plan b if everything doesn't go right on a one-year deal. I think the priority right now if tepper wants to make a big splash is find a way to get Travis Hunter that would be option 1AA because he helps with both sides of the field either way whatever you need defense or offense. Make that happen and then go mostly defense the rest of the way and we're cooking.
    • Move on from what?   Let me guess we gatekeeping on who we can and can't appreciate?   Next time I will just make a Kuechly appreciation thread lmao
