Patiences!

Something all teachers need to teach

Steve has a chip on shoulder attitude

That's also what led Steve to attack 2 teammates.

As a rookie WR how close do you really want to get ?

Steve is Steve thats what makes him great ,he intimadates and delivers .

Here's what I took from that.

Smith: Hey, rookies, let's watch game tape of me in key situations you WILL be in this year. Ask me what I did. Watch and study. Do not, I repeat, do not come to me after you make a mistake on the damn field and say, "I don't know what to do". You'll know if you study your playbook better and watch more film and work with me in the film room. I ain't holding your hand on the field. That's where men play.

From everything I have heard, Smitty is not very approachable. So that, along with his brutal honesty, could easily intimidate the younger guys. Gettis and Edwards, in particular, both seem to be pretty humble, quiet guys, and I could easily see them being intimidated by Smitty and his aura.

Smith is a moody jerk. A hell of a player, but he is a jerk. He has punched out 2 of his teammates gang style. He really doesn't interact with anyone consistently other that Kasay, his best friend. Smith has a good heart, but no social skills. So, don't expect folks to seek you out. After all, if his dumb ass had not been trying to make the all-pro Y league flag team, he would be out there with them, not eavesdropping in the film room.

Most of you probably won't understand what I'm about to say. {{No snide remarks, please :) }} But anyone who has lived through the years of their children being teenagers will understand. You can take your teenager only so far before you have to let go and truly hope that all you have taught them will serve them well when making their own decisions. No matter how crazy those decisions seem to be. As the parent, you also always want to help your teenager avoid your mistakes. They have to think for themselves.

But sometimes you have to say or do something that will shock your teenager into paying attention to what you are telling them. Hoping this last lesson will sink in and stay.

That is where Smitty is with the WR corps. They are the teenagers and he has been the parent. He's letting go and he's done this interview hoping they are paying attention and it will sink in and stay with them. He's not abandoning them, he's not being a mean, whining person. He knows that they have to think for themselves. And IMO once they start doing that he'll be there for them just like Moose was for him after he showed his heart for playing WR.
