the o-line has issues...wait...what?

Recommended Posts

after scanning thru some of the current threads....

...how come when last season's league leading rusher and nfl record holder has a bad game, it's a result of the panthers' defensive awesomeness...

...but when an rb of the same running style as the previously stated back has a bad outing in the very same game, it's the result of the o-line's poor play?

i guess it's just impossible to fathom that the opposing team's defense, who just happens to practice against last season's league leading rusher and nfl record holder, would have developed even the slightest clue as to how to defend against a rusher with the same running style?

You need to be a little more subtle for this to work how you want it to.

i'm actually irritated that the finger is being pointed at the o-line, and no credit is being given to the opposing defense.

The same thing is happening on the other teams forum. Jeff Fisher gave us no credit at all as to why his team had trouble running the ball during the post game interview. I think the problem is a little of both. Facing a good defense and the oline still not clicking.

It is a combination of the lack of pass protection, run blocking, AND penalties that leads one to point the finger at the OLine. They have not performed well.

so you are suggesting that we should throw our hands up and say that the other defenses are too good to run on and not improve the oline play? members on this board overvalue our oline quality imo, we could definitely improve. all playing together will help, but we played the best last year without both of our top tackles, some cohesiveness is necessary. penalties have hurt us this preseason, i think we will work out the kinks sooner than later.

no...but every once in a while, two teams face each other and it's like an unstoppable force hitting an immovable object.

in this case, it was both teams' rushing offenses and defenses.

maybe i'm one of the few people who still appreciate a good defensive standoff...where the outcome is decided by the first mistake that's made.

I'm not sure if you've been watching all three of the games. I assume you have.

The oline hasn't been playing well. Yes, opposing defenses get some credit...as they should. That being said, I've seen our oline out right struggling. Not executing well.

The good news is, it's not the end of the world. The defense should be able to allow for another slow start by the offense. Having steve smith should also get our offense at least rolling enough for them to get their swagger back.

    • Some of you who are not sold on Canales are insane. His main purpose was to turn around Bryce Young’s career and he did that. Of all of the teams in the top 10 of the NFL draft, we were the team that was consistently showing the most fight week in and week out. Our players never quit on the season. The offense which he is responsible for took a huge step forward compared to last year, despite the lack of skill talent  that we have. It was our defense that was a mess. That’s one of my critiques on Canales. He should’ve gotten rid of Evero and hired his own DC that shares the same vision. But as a whole, I can’t see how people are not pleased with what Canales did with this team. I’d give him an 9/10
    • One of the first thoughts after the game yesterday was that JT was going to jump all over it. He's been more favorable about BY from the beginning, and so yesterday must've felt like Christmas.
    • Maybe, but they were always going to be an impossible team to accurately mocked right now. They have an absurd amount of cap room, what they need right now will not be what they need come draft day.  They can make multiple big splash signings and even make trades for players who need new contracts and their teams don't want to give it to them. OT and WR might be their two biggest needs right now, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to think they could go into the draft needing neither of them.  I think a LT will be their top FA priority, also think they're going to make a big offer to Higgins, and I could see them being a team in the running to trade for someone like DK Metcalf as they need a WR like him and they have the cap space to give him a big new contract.
