Last pre-season game

The Guy

Recommended Posts

I know that most of the time the starters really dont play that much the final pre-season game, and sometimes they dont play at all. With some of the struggles we have been having on offense do you think our first team O will play a few downs, or maybe even a quater? Or will the 2nd teamers play most of the game?

I'm not all that worried about the O because its preseason and key players are out blah blah blah, but no TD's all pre-season is sort of disappointing. I figure this thread will be a nice little break from "Moore sux11!!!1111!" threads. Go Panthers.

Yeah, with the age of the team and the "struggles" I wouldn't be surpised if the offence plays a little longer than usual. But keep DWill out and get the starting defence out pretty quickly....they have proven themselves and deserve a little rest, because they are gonna get a workout during the season.

I think Moore needs 2 series at least. Clausen needs a Qtr or more, to get more game experience. (Is the writing on the wall for Cantwell, I noticed they even had Pike carrying the clipboard Sat. night.) Cantwell and Pike split the rest of the game, I'm thinking Pike to the PS and Cantwell released.

I would like to see Gettis and Guy get some time with the first and second teams, Gettis made some nice grabs and and showed he can take a shot and hold on to the ball.

No way is Carolina going in to the season with only 2 QBs on the roster. Pike will probably go to the PS while Cantwell is the #3. Remember the #3 QB is not included in the active 45-man game day roster.

They are not included on the 45 man active day roster, but they are on the 53 man limit.

AE could be the emergency 3rd QB, while Pike or Cantwell to the PS...with the other being released.

Saves a slot on the 53 man roster...needed to possibly carry 6 WR's and a KO Specialist.

    • Yes.  And this converts directly to confidence.  Does the coach have confidence to call a deep dig or seam route?  Does Bryce have confidence in his ability to be the Alpha?  Do his teammates have confidence.  About film--when I see Cam Newton's pre-snap confidence vs. Bryce's, it is night and day.   Film--tells you if the WRs are open (why l love watching the Replay telecasts from the end zone cameras--you can see it.  I have seen 2 WRs open and Bryce's eyes are on the outlet WR or the pass rush. )  You can see progressions, and he has improved a bit--but he is very quick to rush through 1 and 2 and checkdown--that is a lack of confidence in his ability to read the defense.  I had a former NFL TE (Deems Maye) who played QB in high school (not sure about college) tell me that the best QBs read the defense by knowing where everyone will be when the ball is to arrive--not where they are.  I think his QB at the time was Humphries.  He said that Humphries would throw the ball into coverage before the cuts etc.  because he understood DB momentum, zone areas, etc.  and he could just see it.  Said so when people say nobody was open, they are usually right because nobody should be "open" when the QB has the ball--when the ball arrives, everyone should be open.  He said Humphries was never "great" but his skills were limited--from a small school--but his ability to read a defense made him never give up on a route.
