If Fox leaves what happens to Meeks?

If our defense improves from last year and Fox is fired I would be very surprise to see Meeks leave. I understand a new coach wants his own staff, but a coach would recognize the positives Meeks has accomplished with such a young defense, or at least I hope he would.

Not always. Some coaches may think that the problem was the old staff regardless of their talent and gut everyone. They may have a defensive guy that they're loyal too. On the other hand JR might intervene and help Meeks keep his job or if Meeks was hired specifically by Fox he might want to clean house completely.

I do think that with the Rooney rule in place he will at least get an interview with the team for any HC vacancy. But if he doesn't get the head job theirs a lot of variables that come into play with whether he keeps his job (if he even wants to).

If Fox leaves, this franchise will take 3+ years to recover.

If Fox stays, the it will take us (3+ years + plus however long Fox stays years) to recover.

I think Meeks is a top candidate to replace Fox...unless we land a big name like Gruden or Cowher. Why promote a no-name coordinator from some other team when we've got solid coaches right here that are familiar with the team. Meeks over Davidson as a HC any day.

I think Meeks would be an excellent choice for head coach. He already knows the team and would possibly bring a little of that flare that Indy had when he was with them under Dungy.

This is actually something I have been worrying about. I would hate to loose Meeks. He has really lit a fire under the D. Fox, I could live without, but if it means loosing Meeks, I think I would rather keep him.

Meeks as the next HC is an interesting idea. If Fox demands a large amount of $, maybe this would work out better. Our O would probably open up a little.

Ron Meeks is a good soldier. I can see him sacrificing himself for the good of the Carolina Panthers if it means getting rid of Fox.

Who knows? maybe the next HC will keep him.

Meeks is not a HC candidate. He will probably be gone if Fox goes.

Depends on new coach. However, I would definitely want to keep Jim Skipper. He's the best assistant coach on the team.

Nothing is in stone about the next HC position.

Even if Meeks WERE to become our next HC, then he'd have to find a coach to coach the defense, and it wouldn't exactly be the same, would it? Doubt Meeks does the both HC, and DC role, like Wade Phillips does, but stranger things happen.

As of this point, I'm not worried about the head coaching job. It is Fox's as long as he wants to be here.

I could see a scenario where Meeks becomes head coach and Baker takes over at DC.

With that said, I'm nowhere near certain that Fox is out next season.

That scenario is better than any coaching change suggestion I've heard, period.
