Fastest defense in Panthers history???

We may not have the strongest guy at every position on D, but we definitely have the fastest.

Colts didn't have Jon Beason

Beason is pretty good against the run... Connor is good in pursuit... and Anderson can hold his own. So I think we stand as good a chance as any at stopping the run.

Everette Brown looks a lot like Robert Mathis 2.0. Undersized, extremely fast pass rusher who piles up sacks. I don't think the power run game will run all over the Panther D...the D-Line is pretty large. Between Tyler, Leonard, and Brayton (who I'm assuming will be in on rushing downs), that's plenty of size to take down a Brandon Jacobs type back. He isn't even a lock to start week 1 with Ahmad Bradshaw looking to seize the starting job.

I'm not going to get too high on them. To be fair, if the TEN game was during the regular season they would have run C. Johnson a LOT more and there's a good chance he would pop a big run, the guy is just too talented. He didn't get 2K yards last year by consistently getting 5-10 yard runs. He'd chip away then bust out a big one where no one could catch him.

The big unknown with this D is how they react in the 4th quarter when they're out of breath and their legs feel like jello. That's where experience and veteran leadership come into play.

I am not sure if I agree about having trouble with power running games. We are pretty big up the middle with Tyler and Leonard so we should be able to hold our own there. Our linebackers are a little small, but as long as we do well on the line, that shouldn't hurt us much.

I think you guys are worrying about "power running" games too much. Just remember how many guys were making the tackle last night. There would usually be at least 2-3 guys there at a time. If 3 guys can't take down one RB then we're screwed anyway.

To be fair, if the TEN game was during the regular season they would have run D. Williams a LOT more and there's a good chance he would pop a big run, the guy is just too talented. He didn't get 1K yards last year by consistently getting 5-10 yard runs. He'd chip away then bust out a big one where no one could catch him.

Just to note, Johnson was having trouble getting more than one yard, much less 5.

I am not as worried as some of you. Yes, I see a lot of speed on the field. However, I also see 3 and 4 defenders making the tackle. That is the formula that the Bucs used when their Tampa 2 dominatedon defense.

Hey, that is the point I just made! :P

Of course it goes both ways. I'm just talking about the D here.
