Roster Predicition / Roster cuts

I don't know. I can definitely see Jarrett possibly being cut. All this talk again and again from people (including Davidson, MMoore, and Fox IIRC) saying #2 WR is "wide open," left implicit in that is that the 4th year vet can't separate himself from a few pairs of fresh, green legs. The coaches already know he can make a grab now and again, but can he be a threat in the offense?

He may hang around and become an important part of this offense in '10, but he may also get cut after the 4th preseason game. This preseason's Jarrett is looking a lot like previous seasons' Jarrett.

Well before camp I thought that he would be cut, and then at the beginning of camp I thought that there was no way he could make the team (with all the bad reports and things and K Moore playing like a hero and all). But now K. Moore sucks too, and the only locks are Smitty, Lafell, and Edwards.

That leaves a couple more spots and there are not a couple of guys better than he on the roster...or is there? I think Gettis gets a spot, he has shown as much as Jarrett ever has (DJ nuthuggers hate because I hate you too). I do think the last spot will come down to Jarrett and this Guy guy, and I believe Guy gets it for whatever potential he may bring. After all Jarrett has been in the league three full seasons and all he has is potential, and that's all these other guys have too.

Guy has a good chance to clear waivers and make the PS. He could use a good year of bulking up (so, could AE). If we only keep 5 I think it will be between DJ and Moore. The three drafted rookie WR's have likely shown enough to keep them all on the roster.

I have a feeling we only keep 2 QB's and try to sneak one of the others on the PS, which is likely part of the reason for Pike's lack of playing time.

RB's will be the same four from last season.

I'm not sure if we keep an extra FB or not. Fiametta seems to be handling things well and the TE's can handle it if needed.

TE's will be the three from last season.

I have no idea what we may do with the OL. The starting 5 plus Duke and Schwartz are likely safe.

We will probably keep 5 DE's. CJ, Brown, Brayton and the two draft picks

I see us keeping 4 DT's as CJ can always slide inside if needed for a few plays. I'm gonna say EJ, LL, TT, and Landri (I think this is the end of Hayden as I was seeing him get handled by 2nd stringers quite often) I think they may try to hide Irvin on the PS

LB's we'll keep the starting 3 plus Jamar and likely Ivey. I'm not sure if we keep a 6th since one the the DE's can also play LB.

Safties will likely be Godfrey, Martin, Pugh, and Hudson

For the CB's we will obviously keep Gamble, Marshall, and the Captain. I think we keep 6 CB's with Wilson, Witherspoon, and Sanford.

Special teamers are Kasey, Baker, and Jansen. I'm not sure we keep Carter as he hasn't been that impressive (whether that is by design or not is debatable)

WRs

Smitty

Lafell

Edwards (has to stay b/c of the price, I think he'll eventually be a gamebreaking type player, but this year he's gonna be spending a lot of time watching and we'll have to be patient)

Wright

Guy (close call)

Gettis (close call)

I think you are right, I think the front office drafted 3 and brought in Guy as a Rookie FA for a reason. (Wright may go on IR.) I think the coaches started Jarrett in all 3 games and gave him every opportunity to show he could be the #2 guy. I just haven't seen it, another disadvantage is the other WR's can contribute on ST's and Jarrett just seems a step slow compared to the others.

Big names who are on the wrong side of the bubble:

Jarrett-sure, he catches everything, but when he runs a 3 yard route on 3rd and 8--some of you blamed Moore for this, but it is the WR's job to get to the first down marker. Secondly, the only time they seem to throw to him is on a hot route (slant) or a desperation, underneath checkdown. Where are the fades, the deep outs? Few and far between. The QBs are still ligning him up, and the coaches are fed up with him. He has no special teams value. Jarrett could be cut. I say he has about a 40%-50% chance of making the team.

Duke Robinson: They probably want to work with him some more, but he fell in the draft for a reason. Is he as dumb as Jarrett? Does he have a work ethic? Can he not beat out a 7th rounder from Bentley College who is getting pushed around a bit in the preseason? Is he worth a roster spot?

Corvey Irvin: He will land on the PS, but first, we will cut him. Thank God Landri stepped up, because Irvin was supposed to be the man. Instead, we sign a troubled couch potato, A Jax cut and former PS player (Landri), and a couple rejects from NFL powerhouses like KC and Cleveland. THey are all ahead of our third round pick from a year ago out of Georgia.

CJ Wilson: He has been better, but we have a lot of talent in front of him. They like RJ Stanford a lot for his special teams and CB play and Marcus Hudson because he is a big boy who can play the CB/OLB hybrid to contain running QBs. He is behind Gamble, Marshall, and Munnerlyn. He ran a 4.6 in college, which is why they drafted him to be a S. Now he is a 4.6 40 running CB on a team loaded at the position (McCain is good as well). In a contract year, go with the younger and cheaper talent.

Aaron Francisco: They love Pugh, and Hudson can play S and the DB/LB hybrid. Francisco has been hurt, and is a bit of a journeyman at this point. Time for a new stop.

Hunter Cantwell, Tony Pike: I think they might cut them both, hoping at least one will be left for the PS. With Clausen's toe, this might not be what happens. However, if we need either of these two to start, season over anyway.

Surprise players who will make the team:

Witherspoon CB: 2 ints in one game helps, but I see Spoon as the next punt returner. He is a viable reserve, will land as the 4th CB.

Derrick Landri DT: He could start. Getting penetration, Motor is consistent with the new look Panthers defense. He could be our best DT at this time.

Jordan Pugh S: Sure, no surprise, but a 6th rounder who is good enough to start is. I think Martin could be on the bench by mid year-he has made some mental mistakes and is not as physical as Pugh. I see Pugh starting at S or CB by next season. They are that high on him. I would not be surprised to see him compete for the nickel as well.

David Gettis WR: He lacks the hands of DJ, but he has more speed, intelligence, and heart.

RJ Stanford CB: As mentioned, we are solid with three starting CBs. Stanford is faster than WIlson, so he will find a spot as a 5th CB and be huge on special teams.

Todd Carter K: The smoothie King will have to stay on board, but if the offense doesn't get better, we will not need him much.
