Roster Predicition / Roster cuts

Why?

I guess it doesn't matter to answer now, but I'll show you why I thought that way.

Fox motioned to his shoulder coming off of the field, and the fact that right was holding his hand so gingerly, wiggling his fingers made me think it was pretty serious. If it hurts that far down then you probably messed up pretty bad. I know it's standard procedure for guys to do that but this didn't look like standard stuff. It just looked it hurt like hell.

Don't know why some of you are so high on D Jarrett, even penciling him in as starter! In 3 seasons he has only 1 TD and last year was the 1st he caught over 100 yards!K Moore shows a lot more potential,Jarrett should be cut!I think B Lafell should be #2 and K Moore #3 and D Jarrett # get the f#ck off the roster!

Because if the ball is in his area he catches it. If he ever figures out how to get seperated and remembers the where he is supposed to play he will be a good WR. I have no problem giving him this last year then if he doesnt get it then release him this offseason.

Note: Although, I do think Fox will want to keep Todd Carter for kickoffs, which means one of these guys will lose a spot, I think it'd have to come down to Eric Moore or Charly Martin leaving. Or Gettis, but I really think he makes the team.

For years, Jarrett has irritated the poo out of me. He has the hands and the body to manhandle corners. But like every other head-scratching ignorant fan, I can only guess what his problem has been, and my guess has always been: MOTIVATION.

Motivation is a tricky thing, because there are so many factors: pay, competition, coaching, length of contract, injury.

The age old excuse is that Jarrett didn't prosper while being overlooked by Delhomme. True, but Jarrett dropped several important catchable passes from Delhomme, which validated Delhomme's dismissal of him. His rookie contract was a year longer than most, which arguably afforded him a prolonged honeymoon from the field of play, but a fan's expectation for additional playbook time isn't apparent in his routes. And he ought to have been a factor in the slot late last year, particularly considering the touches and chemistry he built with Moore outnumbered Smith and Moose, because he practiced with the 2's and 3's for 2.5 years!

That leaves Jarrett's motivation problems being about coaching or pay. Originally, Jarrett was an early-mid 2nd round hold out. Clearly there was a difference in perceived value at the onset, and that can be demotivating but for how long? Depends on the attitude.

Former receivers coach Richard Williamson wasn't able to motivate Jarrett, or develop another receiver after odds-beating Steve Smith, and he rode that sucess story a long time. Now, we have Tyke Tolbert coaching our receivers, a guy with a solid list of developed receivers: Lee Evans, Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed. Those guys performed well under a mixed bag of QB's and head coaches. Tyke is a high energy guy, and has been with us through our offseason workouts, training camps, and preseason....but still Jarrett hasn't sparked. We can't say this is about coaching anymore.

The only remaining factor in Jarrett's lackluster career is the motivation for money. Being the final year of his career, his agent must be telling him that if he doesn't turn it on this year, he's done. By done, I mean done in the NFL, not just done for the Panther's.

There's no savings in cutting Jarrett, but it should be done for posterity, barring some outstanding performance against the Steelers. It may motivate the other receivers to see the spot open up, and I'd rather roster a raw player of unknown talent, than a player of consistent indifference to the opportunity he's been given.

Is there even ONE PLAY where having Jarrett on the field makes the Panthers better, than having another veteran TE like Barnidge or Rosario run routes?

We have at least two young receivers (Moore,Gettis) who are going to get looks from other teams. Which team would be excited to get Jarrett?

Houshmandzadeh may be available if the Seahawks get Jackson

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, it's "believed" the Seahawks are trying to part with T.J. Houshmandzadeh in an effort to clear salary space for Vincent Jackson.

It's an honorable idea. The Seahawks are highly unlikely to find a trade partner for Houshmandzadeh, but theoretically could release the declining veteran to get the rest of his contract off the books. They'd still be on the hook for Housh's $7 million guaranteed salary, of course, but Seattle owner Paul Allen has deep pockets. If he wants a better chance to win, he'll do it.

Well after tonight, I'll just make one change to the way I had my depth chart before tonight. Eric Moore over Irvin. Irvin did nothing tonight in a crucial #4 preseason game while Moore still produced. They usually choose production over need even if that position is log jammed and even if the need is a glaring hole (not saying that DT is a glaring hole this year, but I thought they'd keep 5 after the mess last year). For example, the number of LBs last year to number of DTs (even when the depth at DT was very poor).

OFFENSE:

WR1: Steve Smith - Kenneth Moore - Armanti Edwards (DP)

LT: Jordan Gross - Garry Williams

LG: Travelle Wharton

C: Ryan Kalil

RG: Mackenzy Bernadeau - Duke Robinson

RT: Jeff Otah - Geoff Schwartz

TE: Jeff King - Dante Rosario - Gary Barnidge

WR2: Dwayne Jarrett - Brandon LaFell (DP) - David Gettis (DP)

QB: Matt Moore - Jimmy Clausen (DP)

FB: Tony Fiammetta - Rashawn Jackson (UDFA)

RB: DeAngelo Williams - Jonathan Stewart - Mike Goodson - Tyrell Sutton

DEFENSE:

LE: Charles Johnson - Greg Hardy (DP)

DLT: Ed Johnson - Derek Landri

DRT: Louis Leonard - Tank Tyler

RE: Tyler Brayton - Everette Brown - Eric Moore

SLB: James Anderson - Eric Norwood (DP)

MLB: Dan Connor

WLB: Jon Beason - Jamar Williams

LCB: Chris Gamble - Captain Munnerlyn - Robert McClain (DP)

RCB: Richard Marshall - C.J. Wilson - Brian Witherspoon

SS: Charles Godfrey - Marcus Hudson

FS: Sherrod Martin - Jordan Pugh (DP)

SPECIAL TEAMS:

K: John Kasay

P: Jason Baker

KOS: Todd Carter - Jason Baker

H: Jason Baker

DS: J.J. Jansen - James Anderson - Gary Barnidge - Ryan Kalil

KR: Mike Goodson - Brian Witherspoon - Tyrell Sutton - David Gettis (DP)

PR: Brian Witherspoon - Captain Munnerlyn - Armanti Edwards (DP) - Kenneth Moore
