Panthers free up more cap space

Recommended Posts

More #Panthers roster moves news: The team recently reworked the contract for backup OT Yosh Nijman.

Per league source, Nijman's deal -- originally two years, $8m, signed last year -- will still end after this season, but will save the team roughly $1.6 million in cap space.

Maybe it's just the same amount of money

Hell both of us are probably right.

plus I thought Brandt and Dan were against using the old ways of kicking the can down the road??

I do see if you roll over the 1.6million to next next year, a small benefit... but it seems they already spent it.

I think it was a paycut so there's nothing to kick.

I could be wrong, but I took the readings as they converted some or part of base salary into a signing bonus and "kicked" half of into a void year as add-on. Guess we need to see the details.

Base for 2025= 3.6 turn into signing bonus and add void 2026 year. Its 1.6 this year and the "dummy" year.

The cap is going up and should continue, so so that 1.6 next year will have less of % cap effect (tiny but still).

The next tweet says it was a pay cut.

So they took his money and gave it to Theilen

honestly, I love it.  Rewards for production, cuts if not.  We paid our own over achievers and moved on from guys who didnt do squat (or dramatic reduction in pay (IE Shy Tuttle).  Players want to play for organizations that reward play, we've been kinda the opposite of that during much of the tepper term, but gotta change the perception at some point.

Too bad we can't move on from owners who haven't performed quite as easily.
