Analysis: Preseason Game 3

Mr. Scot

I feel like the offense maybe finally starting to get into rhythm with each other, the plays that were made during the 2:00 mark in the first half were nice. Not saying they were great but, getting better. Defense is astounding, hopefully this is the new face of the Carolina D, no mercy. I liked what I saw from Guy and kudos for his dreads being awesome. I can't remember exactly what plays he was good on but I remember trying to think of who 84 was. Overall glad we got the win and hope the offense gels more in the next game to hopefully be ready for NYG so we can punish them again.

While I watch the Panthers religiously, I cannot say that I fully understand the game, so bear with me . . . we have three TEs that can catch and block, so why do we not line one of them up as the slot receiver? There has been a lot of discussion of various wideouts, and there is definitely a need for a second receiver behind Smith, but no receiver we have brought in since the Moose of old has been very impressive. It might be true that King cannot really run after the catch, but he drops very few balls. Barnidge and Rosario can run quite well, and they have better hands than a lot of the receivers we have auditioned. So, before I go off thinking I am a football genius, could one of you far more knowledgeable people explain why this idea is ridiculous?

Might sound a bit simplistic, but there are reasons why TEs are TEs.

The guys we have would be much more likely to swap spots with a fullback than a wide receiver.

Pretty sure there was at least one point at which a TE did line up as fullback on Saturday, but I may just be delusional (the stream I was watching had such poor quality at some points I couldn't see jersey numbers).

You did indeed see that. From memory, I think it was Rosario, but I'd need to look back at the tape to be sure.

Rosario went into motion and lined up as FB, which had the defense confused. Well designed play, considering Rosario is more of a passing option when he's on the field. The offense did seem to use a lot of motion in this game, compared to others.

Great observations as usual Scott.

Just wanted to add a few things.

Gettis really had a nice showing saturday night. He shows great awareness, good body control, and catching the ball with his hands. This is a kid the team needs to keep on the team.

Dwayne Jarrett, I'm to the point that I just don't care about. If they keep him, fine, as long as it doesn't cost us Gettis.

Something else that I haven't seen mentioned, is the play of our defensive tackles.

Everyone has been most worried about out defensive tackles, but they have been playing very well...specially Saturday night, keeping the offensive linemen from getting their hands on our linebackers, allowing them to flow to the ball, and make plays. Without the play of our defensive tackles, our talent at linebacker wouldn't be showing like it is.

I have complimented them a few times, they have attacked the middle allowing our ends to have quite a few sacks on the inside of the tackles rather than on the outside.

One more thing, our starting o-line still hasn't impressed me yet. I don't know why they are playing as poorly as they are. It can't be just cause Otah isn't playing. The dude plays right tackle more than well enough to be a starter in this league.

I sincerely hope they pull their heads out of their asses, and start playing better.

The only worry I have is that the Titans seemed to run the ball the opposite side of the field from Beason alot of the time. I'd rather he stayed at MLB, that we the ball can't be ran away from him.

I noted that too but also saw Beason come across from the other side of the field to make the tackle. He's the best athlete and Conner has been solid on his tackling. I am curious to see how this will play out the rest of the season.

I love me some Beason...he's a monster on the field. I have much love for Hardy as well...defense is making me get a little excited and I hope it continues to get better!
