I know it's preseason, but is our defense really this good?

Last Saturday I told you to enjoy it because we have something special. You guys still don't believe. On the real, I think we will have 12 sacks by the end of week 3. Being optimistic, I will say 18. 12-18, Doc.

If we have 8-10, we'll also have 5 picks because of all the pressure.

forget top 10, we're going to be a top 5 if this is real.

these guys are amazing. these guys have really rallied around the loss of peppers and now that they are no longer standing in his shadow, they are getting a chance to shine. :cornut:

I will be satisfied with a top 10 defense,if we can get the offense on track.

The offense only needs to have long drives to eat up the clock and score

10-14 points for a win

This should be a very good season with the run first offense of Panthers

Moore just needs to not turn the ball over .

Defense will stay fresh and take care of the rest

Like Super Bowl Ravens and Bucs

Currently:

#1 Pass Defense

#2 Rush Defense

#1 Overall Defense

Look it up: http://www.nfl.com/stats/team

Also...

18 Sacks

8 Forced Fumbles

2 Interceptions

Check it: http://www.nfl.com/teams/carolinapanthers/statistics?team=CAR

Yes, they're that good. #1 good, in fact. I predict they will be #1 in Pass and Rush defense by the end of the preseason, and will remain that way through the regular season.

It's preseason. Which means

1. No/very little gameplanning. This is especially important, say that your free safety is the weak link on your defense. The offense would run routes to try to match their playmakers up against your weakest guy exposing chinks in your defense.

2. It's not starters vs starters so defense rank does not matter in preseason. Starters play what? half, a quarter or a game? sometimes only a few series? And the rest is 2nd and 3rd string vs 2nd and third string with a few exceptions.

Who was the #1 defense in preseason in 2009, and how well did their defense do during the regular season?

I agree with the poster above me...but on defense, the play this preseason have been reassuring. I'm just happy we WON the game. Should be, if nothing else, a confidence boost.

I do think that the pass rush will be a surprising strength this season, and the LBs won't lose a step with Davis out and Beason on the outside. Safeties are still a question mark...

I think the defense could sustain this level somewhat.

Because you can tell they cant believe they are this good either. But with every dominating performance their confidence will grow then they will become a top group.

But I love that we are basically interchanging parts on the D-line, feeling fresh as you play is so important.

We held the starters for Tenn to 50 yds and 4 first downs in the first half.....

why did you have to mention the p word?

Im sick of that sh-t

maybe instead of "standing in his shadow" they feel like the "great ones" attitude problem isnt holding them back.

it doesn't matter what you're sick of, it's a fact that peppers cast a huge shadow over this defense and it wasn't until beason came along and started playing out from under that shadow that anyone noticed any other player. for years, if anyone mentioned the carolina panthers defense, peppers instantly came to mind. with him gone, beason is the star but he is an inclusive leader that wants everyone to shine. peppers was all about himself an even wanted our defense to change schemes just to suit his whims.

this defense will become a team defense much like the raven defense as i see beason becoming the leader much like ray lewis.

we are stacked with young talent and should be strong for years. ron meeks will truly make a name for himself here and has done wonders with this group of guys.

Technically true. Stats matter very little, BUT they indicate how well we have played(in this case we have been putting pressure on the qb's). This can carry over to the regular season. If we remember how bad we looked last year on both sides of the ball, it also carried over to an 0-3 start.

One person had mentioned before that we faced similar run-first teams these first 3 games. We have held our own with concerning big question marks going into the season with the d-line, but havent been tested by a pass-heavy offense yet.
