Pioli to Chiefs a done deal

He was way better as a DC than as a head coach.

As Zod said he was never a DC. He was a defensive backs coach for KC, then a defensive backs and assistant head coach under Tony Dungy in Tampa. He then went to New York as head coach and then went to KC as head coach. So he has never really has been a DC although I expect he could do it.

Edwards has been a head coach for a while....why would he accept a DC job so quickly?

Probably because no one will likely hire him as a HC at this point. If he is successful as a coordinator he will perhaps get another HC job. Much like Capers did. Depends on whether he wants to stay in the pros, take a break, or go to the college ranks.

I was remembering him having the DC title during the time when he was assistant head coach. Point being though that he's a guy who works better in charge of one aspect of the game than in charge overall.

What I hadn't realized until after looking up a little more info on him was that he actually spent some time working as a pro scout.

(we could use help in that area too, but I doubt it'd come from Herm)

What works best in Herm's favor is the aggressive mindset ("You play...to win...the GAME!!!") and the trust level he'd have with Fox. It would allow Fox to concentrate solely on head coaching and personnel issues as he'd have someone who could handle running the defense unassisted (sadly not the case right now).

Being realistic, this is one of those things that we'd all love but isn't likely to happen. If it did though, I think you'd see the general mood in Panther nation get better...a lot better.

no offense but i think every coaches mindset is to play to win the game, i dont think thats a very special quote of a coach, seriously its common sense you play to win the game, anyone that doesnt have that mindset, needs to not be a nfl coach or player.

I was thining the same thing. Herm has been apert of the NFL for so long, that I don't see him sitting down at an ESPN desk for a year or 2. He will jump at any decent job he gets offered. And we all know Being the DC of the Panthers is a decent job. And you never know maybe if Herm were to come here, that would help Peppers into making up his mind into staying here. :chillpill: Not saying he is leaving just saying maybe it would help him to stay.

Why has Herm Edwards earned such credibility as a DC 'savior'? Like as has been mentioned, he's never been a DC before. And the Chiefs got progressively worse during his tenure there. Is that all on him. No...but he has a good deal of responsibility for that, no?
