No game planning in the pre-season....no problem.

Why don't we wait until the regular season before we get out the annointing oils.

Gotta agree, as much as I want to drink the koolaid about the defense, I don't want to get all built for disappointment.

The pre-season isn't a foolproof method of prediction but being the best in the preseason usually means you aren't going to do too bad. I think we'll be a top 10 defense this season.

Lets see how we do after tomorrow night. At this point we haven't exactly faced 2 great offenses and the starters only played 1 quarter each game. Young and Johnson should play at least a half this week.

It would be nice if the first team offense can get some touchdowns as well. Especially without Smitty, Otah, and Stewart. If we can put up AT LEAST 14 points tomorrow, and hold them to less than 10, I will start a thread about how I was right and panthers55 was wrong :)

Just so we can keep score, what was I wrong about? The defense??

I think I also said at the time that I hope I am wrong. Lets see how we hold up though, as I have said ad nauseum, we need depth as well especially if injuries hit like they seem to every year.

If this defense actually plays well this year, Meeks should be in line for Defensive Coordinator of the year if there were such an award.

well, I'm mainly interested in seeing how we do against Chris Johnson. The pass rush has been much better than even I expected, but we really haven't been tested against the run so far this pre-season. Tennessee will be our first MAJOR test.

Also I'm still very concerned about who, if anyone, can step up and be the #2 receiver. I was hoping either Jarrett or LaFell could be that guy, but neither have been extremely impressive. Though Jarrett hasn't been as bad as probably some expected that he would be.

We need to stop CJ and get someone not named Deangelo Williams on the stat sheet on offense.

I'm talking about the first half btw.

Repeat after me:

It is only the preseason and it doesn't count.

A half a game of football doesn't tell you much.............

    • Getting any level of competition and cohesion out of this roster is a job well done.
    • Not sure if anyone else is watching this D1-AA championship game but I don't know if these receivers have NFL athleticism but they got HANDS. These boys can flat out CATCH. This is a good football game.
    • People on here are wrong all the time. I mean some of our best draft picks people didn't like initially due to various reasons. On the other hand there have been a multitude of decisions made by people who are paid very well to know what they're doing that some Panthers fans here saw as a mistake a mile away. Well look man let's put all the chips on the table. Because your grievance is particularly about the QB position. The Panthers have had only two long term starting franchise QB's in 30 years. Thirty years. Two. This fanbase has seen a hell of a lot of poor to mediocre QB play and even short lived fairy tales like the Kyle Allen win streak or going back even further Matt Moore. As far as Darnold and Mayfield goes I think they are certainly overachieving but I don't think anyone here that was critical of either of them were wrong. They both had a heaping portion of humble pie here that has served them greatly now. Mayfield in particular because when he first got here he was still a cocky idiot. Darnold at least kept his head down and did his job for the most part. But I have a hard time seeing either of them going far in the playoffs because in the midst of some of their best games I've seen the same flawed QB's. Darnold is no Nick Foles let's be real with one another here. Baker specifically looked like hot garbage against our defense in Charlotte recently. And those best teams in the playoffs have all that on film and damn well know about it too if average fans like us can see it.
