I want it to be good, but what I consider good, and what others consider good can be vastly different.

I don't mind simple minded escapist type movies. I saw the Expendables Sunday, it was a decently entertaining movie. Its not going to win any academy awards, but if you just want to forget about everything for an hour or two, its pretty good.

i don't disagree with this mentality, i just can't get excited about a year where the high point is that 12 of those kind of movies are coming out. I mean seriously, how many can you watch? It's weird... things like the expendables, it's almost as though they are taking pride in being unoriginal.

I thought expendables was somewhat unique in that it was a throw back to the old style Arnie, Rambo, Chuck Norris style movies.

But I have only been to three movies this year, so I don't have to worry about sitting through all 12. Iron Man II and the Expendables, which were both decent escapist flicks. And Robin Hood, which I liked primarily because it was different from all the other Robin Hood's.

But its not like a run of these types of movies is unique. I mean how many Roy Rogers and John Wayne movies did they do back in the 50's and 60's. And nowadays, they have to produce enough movies to fill up the multiplexes, so its only natural we are going to see a lot of similar style movies.

All entertainment / movies are an escape one way or the other. I don't need some deep intellectual thought provoking masterpiece of cinema, I can easily get by on a movie about a homeless guy who finds magic sunglasses that allows him to see aliens or even a movie about giant mother f*cking robots from outer space tearing sh*t up, I really don't care.

There is nothing wrong with simple don't have to think movies, I mean hell after busting your ass for 40hours a week thats what most of us need come the end of it

My problem is, the escape movies Hollywood is selling have been done then done then done once more.

I guess some get sick of it quicker then others, but how many times can you see robots blow sh*t up or the same pirates, vampires or group of goofy friends. And sequels never come close to the original especially after you cross past the 2nd sequel. So after a while, at least for me anyway its not an escape anymore but a monotonous journey through the same sh*t i just seen last summer.

do you just go in knowing that you won't like it or are you disappointed after every single one?

generally just disappointed, more and more I just don't go see things in theaters. I can watch anything i want on netflix.

The other thing is that I work in the industry so it takes a good deal more for me to be impressed than most. I'm pretty jaded.

I dont disagree that sequals are getting a little out of hand, but it is the world we live in. People fall in love with a character like Jack Sparrow, or Ironman, so they make movies until people dont want to see them any more. It is all about the $. Most of these sequal movies are comic book movies, and you have got to remember that there are over 60 years of stories that can be told about these characters. I was a huge comics fan growing up, and I am loving seein my child hood relived in live action.

I really enjoyed the Expendables! I thought it was a big time action flick. A lot of explosions, but not a lot of special effects, so it was very 80s or 90s looking. I thought the story was good enough, and the acting was great. The characters actually blended together quite well. I thought the best part was seeing Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren fight. Who would have thought we would ever see that? I did hear they were making a sequel to this as well. lol

Underworld is the one that peaks my interest the most.

I dont really like comic book movies.

Good title not on that list:

Battle: Los Angeles

I had not heard of Battle, but I just looked it up. Sounds like it could be good. Looks like it will be filmed similar to District 9. Sort of real and documentary feeling.
