Adam Schefter: Panthers could release Delhomme

And Hurney has said that releasing Moose was the worst mistake he ever made. If he releases jake it will be the second. We spent years trying to replace Moose and never did, I personally don't want to do the same thing with Jake. I was stunned and sick saturday night but in the end I have liked this year as much or more than any other. 8-0 at home was great and 12-4 was as well. Jake sucked that game but a tougher defense and adherence to what we do best which is run the ball could have changed things significantly. It is always best not to change things wholesale. For me the defense is broken not the offense. If we fix that side of the ball there is no reason to think we can't have a great season next year.

stop blaming the defense for Jake's 6 turnovers. That's ridiculous. The Cards scored almost all of their points off of tunrovers. Name one team that has ever won when down 5 in turnover differential.

http://blogs.nfl.com/2009/01/11/will-delhomme-return-to-carolina-next-season/

I honestly think we should do this. I have been a huge supporter of Jake since his first start in 03. I am still a supporter of him even after the performance last Saturday. However, I think about the team as a whole before I will side with an individual. Delhomme is already 34. He isn't getting any younger, or better. I think it is time that we start a new at the quarterback position. The media for a long time wanted to spin the fact that Delhomme's return from Tommy John Surgery was the reason the team clicked and succeeded this year. Wrong!!! It was the running game that John Fox and Co. base their offensive schemes on. We have never had a running game like we have had this year in the history of the franchise. Now we need a good quarterback to deal with the passing game. Delhomme is just AVERAGE... We need a GOOD quarterback.

Releasing Delhomme according to this blog by Adam Schefter would save the team 6.325 million on next seasons Cap. Jake is scheduled to make 11 Million next year!! Yikes.. Perhaps we could bring in a proven quarterback like an Anderson who is only 25.

I know many of you have been flaming Jake at will after our last game. This is not what this thread was intended for. Perhaps we could leave that all at the door and actually discuss how we could use that money to benefit the team.

If you can save 6.3 million on the cap it seems he is gone. I like Jake but his last performance may be his last performance as a Panther. The Pats won't be letting Cassel go easy and the Panthers don't have a first rounder to deal with them. Tag and sign Peppers..offer him up to Houston for the 15th pick, take that pick and trade it for Cassel..lol. I know I'm probably missing something because it won't be that easy but just saying.

I think he is just trying to say that Jake doesnt play defense.

SO when you go and get your new rookie QB who will be good for a fug up every other series our defense will still be giving up 30 points a game.

our defense LET the Cards score on 7 consecutive drives.

nough said.

we should just get rid of jake anyway, we've already lost next year. This franchise has never had winning seasons back to back. 7 -9 or 8 -8 next year.

on the side comparing delhomme's stats to Ryan and Flacco's

Jake was average in all area's ranking 15th in yards 18th in td's and 18th in pass rating

Flacco was 20th in yards, 20th in td's and 22 in rating

Ryan was 13th in yards, 16th in td's and 11th in rating.

as for in FA if we picked up Cassel, who was ranked

8th in yards, 10th in td's and 10th in rating. that on a team that was 4th in rushing attempts and 6th in rushing. So he's a big strike play action type of qb that would be in the same style of what we run but is more accurate on deep throws.

this discussion is roughly equivilent to the idiot eagle fans wanting to get rid of mcnabb-----quit being stupid people---- jake is not the problem --- that guy #11 for the cards----he's pretty good might want to cover him---- and......who are ypu idiots getting better than jake??? just cuz pussy keyshawn doesn't like him doesn't mean a damn thing --- oh by the way ---is miami going ape-sh*t like you clowns cuz chad threw 4 picks??? think not

no probably not, he only threw 7 picks all season and was in the toip 5 in rating and top 10 in yards. of course not. you can't say any of that about jake, he was an average qb all season.

and if jake doesn't throw those 5 picks and the one fumble we score atleast 10 more points and take away 10 points from them.

If thats all you want..why don't the panthers franchise and trade peppers to houston for our backup sage rosenfels and a second and a 5th rounder:D

Get it right fellas. Delhommes interceptions weren't the reason we lost. That was just Jake being Jake. We have spent enough money on defense that they should be able to overcome Delhomme giving the opponent the ball at our 10 yard line. If our defense can't even overcome our offenses continuous mistakes, then they aren't really professional level defensive athletes.

We won't win a SB by freaking out and cutting Jake after a 12-4 season.

I live in Miami. Its hilarious how terrible the fans are, and its scary how much Cats fans are reminding me of them right now.

Every year I hear about how the Dolphins are going to win the SB "this year". Last year Joey Porter didn't play well and the fans down here were all over the airwaves screaming for his head. This year he plays his a** off.

Then 2 years ago Daunte Culpepper was the savior, then it was John Beck, then Pennington, and now that he had a bad game they are screaming for Chad Henne (yes the same Henne App State embarrased).

GIVE ME A BREAK!

One bad game or one poor playoff performance doesnt mean you blow up the heart and soul of a 12-4 team.

The saddest part is some of the people calling for Jake to be released just don't know a thing about football. He could have played fine, and if the Panthers lost some of you would still be calling for him to be released. It's not fantasy football. You don't just randomly pick your dream players and go win.
