Matt Leinardt has been benched

quarterback Matt Leinart exercised some diplomacy last week when talking about being demoted to backing up Derek Anderson. On Monday, however, Leinart didn't hold back, saying he must have lost his job for reasons other than performance.

"I feel like I've outplayed the competition, training camp, preseason," he said. "I think my plays speaks about that. For me, this goes beyond the football field.

"The philosophy is you want the best 11 guys to play. I feel like I've proved that with my performance. I don't really know what else I could possibly do, so it probably goes beyond football. For me, I just really want an explanation and I haven't been given one."

But Leinart acknowledged he had not asked coach Ken Whisenhunt for an explanation.

"No, it is what it is," Leinart said. "Like I said, I think I've done enough. I need to get better, like I said last week. But I don't know if there have been equal opportunities. Obviously, I haven't played as much as I'd like."

Whisenhunt announced the quarterback change last Thursday, saying his offense needed a spark after not playing well in the first two preseason games.

This is not really a surprise to me. I never though he would do good in the NFL. Reason you ask? He never really had to play at USC with the talent they had. He just stood back there and was never really pressured. I think that made for him being a BAD NFL QB. I would rather get a QB that was challenged a little in Collage Football then one that had no really experience of learning how to work in hard situations.

Looking at the way that talent has performed in the NFL, I am not so sure that they were that talented afterall.

Leinart, Jarrett, and Bush have certainly been disappointments.

ya never know...but Matty Hass is the starter, we already overpaid for Whitehurst and then theres still Adam Sandler...who I will assume will be cut. Can't see us adding him into the mix at all.
