Pantera numetal?

Numetal wasn't even a word until Pantera had 3 albums out.

this is true. technically i guess theyre in a league of their own...like southern rock redneck metal or something haha.

i always associated them with the nu-metal scene since it seems thats where they were most accepted and fit best. Pantera and Korn always seemed to go hand in hand with that crowd.

My favorite metal band of all time is Acid Bath, you can't find a more varied metal band between the two albums. The depth of songwriting, structuring, everything is perfect. They're still wildly popular despite breaking up in 96.

What are some good bands similar to Acid Bath? Also what would be the most recommended CD's from any band to listen to at the gym?

No, but I could have sworn on numerous occasions, particular following the release of their first album, that they were classified as nu-metal.

You are right. Reminds me the time when Jethro Tull be Metallica for best metal album (or something like that). People didn't know what metal was back then XD

See...i'd consider bands like Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine, A7X, Lamb of God, to be straight up metalcore...more on the hardcore side than metal.

Bands like Pantera, Machine Head, Slipknot, Sepultura (the more groove-oriented bands), i consider to be Nu-Metal.

I agree that a lot of the "core" bands do suck...mainly because that genre has become so ridiculously oversaturated over the years. however, the genre as a whole has been revolutionary to the heavy music scene and has sparked some of the most innovative and original compositions to come to fruition.

I usually refer to "metal" bands as being those who play [melodic] death metal, black metal, power metal; i.e. In Flames, Soilwork, Decapitated, Necrophagist, Scar Symmetry, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Dragon Force, etc.

BTBAM has officially jumped the shark, btw. They are trying waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard to be like Opeth. I still like them though.

Haha What? They have next to no similar characteristics to Opeth. The only thing the same is sometimes it's heavy, and other times it's clean. The styles they switch between are almost never the same. The overall mood, lyrics, and drumming are nothing alike either?

A band being progressive doesn't make them just like other progressive bands.

btbam i think has acid bath beat as far as diversity goes :D

How many acoustic songs do they have on each album?

Acid Bath has two per album. And if btbam did do some acoustic songs, I doubt they'd even come close.

There's so many different styles and techniques and song structure packed into one album that it would be very difficult to compete with them on diversity. Much less emotion.

There was only one Acid Bath, but a lot of their fans gravitate towards the New Orleans sludge metal like EyeHateGod. Unfortunately they lack the progressive structuring that Acid Bath did so well. Its really hard to categorize them. Progressive/goth/death/sludge/doom/southern/grindcore/country/western/blues metal mega-hybrid. Its all in there.
