Most brutal song ever

If there is anything to be taken from this thread, it's this:

"Pop Metal", and "Metal" in general are subjective terms. I consider bands like Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine, A7x, Strapping Young Lad, etc. "Pop Metal". Other people like PSC consider most "Groove Metal" bands (LOG, Pantera, Machine Head, etc.) to be "Pop Metal". In the end it's all about what is metal to you and what makes you feel good when you listen to it.

Oh, and pretty much every band in the "core" genre sucks, IMO. That's not to say they aren't talented, but playing fast with no groove or tempo changes is annoying, and don't even get me started on the travesty known as the pig squeal.

Now for more music:

Long live the Cavalera brothers.

Pantera definitely was not pop metal. Not when they came out anyway. No more than Exhorder was pop metal.

I'm just glad you Cavalerafags haven't posted any Soulfly. LOL SOULFLY LOL

Sep hasn't done anything worthwhile since Max left either though. Chaos AD is probably my fav.

To me, pop metal is overproduced, underperformed, and biting on the current trends.

Machinehead sure couldn't stick to their roots.

Someone should post some Biohazard to put the icing on the cake.

Yeah, I refuse to listen to Soulfly; it's complete crap. Sepultura is nothing without Max and Igor.

I wouldn't say complete crap, they usually have one or two good songs per album, but the rest is filler trash.

But Max definitely needs someone other than himself calling shots and influencing the music. If you could slap new Sep together with Soulfly, you'd have some solid poo. Both bands seem to lack what the other has.

See...i'd consider bands like Atreyu, Bullet for my Valentine, A7X, Lamb of God, to be straight up metalcore...more on the hardcore side than metal.

Bands like Pantera, Machine Head, Slipknot, Sepultura (the more groove-oriented bands), i consider to be Nu-Metal.

I agree that a lot of the "core" bands do suck...mainly because that genre has become so ridiculously oversaturated over the years. however, the genre as a whole has been revolutionary to the heavy music scene and has sparked some of the most innovative and original compositions to come to fruition.

I usually refer to "metal" bands as being those who play [melodic] death metal, black metal, power metal; i.e. In Flames, Soilwork, Decapitated, Necrophagist, Scar Symmetry, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Dragon Force, etc.
