Here's a pre-draft hot take...

Jaxson Dart is going a lot higher than a lot of people expect. Possibly QB2. Possibly top 10.

Jets and him could be an interesting fit. Fields takes the pressure off for a season of transition.

Also like him for PIT

I'm going to preface this by saying that I in no way think Coker is or will be better than tetairoa mcmillan.  I think he gives us alot of the things that tet does.  He's not as tall, but he is big bodied, has good hands, his arms are actually longer than tet, finds the open spaces.  We need an over the top and yac guy.

I don't disagree that we do need someone with some speed that can be our version of Tyreek, I just want them to be able to catch the damn ball. We have drafted so many guys for traits while ignoring their actual skills. 4.3 speed is great, but if the ball isn't in your hands, it's pretty useless. I'm not saying I want Tet, just that he checks of the most important part of being a WR for me. The ball hits his hands and he's gonna catch it. Hands are my #1 skill for a receiver before speed. Only point I was really making.

I don't think 40 speed is as important as lateral quickness and acceleration. That and just plain being elusive in the open field. The ability to make guys miss isn't necessarily dependent on vertical speed.

T-Mac was 5th in the Big 12 in YAC, because he’s also really good at taking screens and short slants for solid gains.

And no, we don’t need an over the top guy, because Bryce doesn’t have the type of arm that takes best advantage of that speed.

But you know what would pair well with Bryce’s arm strength and talent?

An elite deep jump ball guy and someone with glue for hands and an absurd catch radius where a precision touch passer can put the ball where nobody else but him can get to it.  If people want to build around Bryce, we should play to his strengths, and that’s giving him a Mike Evans, not a Tyreek Hill.

Which isn’t to say we don’t still need speed, we can find speed in a slot guy too, but T-Mac is a great fit with what Bryce does well.

The 40 is the single most overrated measurement in football. It's a rarity on a football field that you get to take off and run in a straight line for 40 yards completely unimpeded. Something really good or really bad has happened to create that opportunity. All the 40 is really doing is giving you an indication of a player's long speed. The quick but not fast guys will have good 10 and 20 yard splits but run of the mill 40 times and they'll shine in the three cone and shuttle drills which are honestly a lot more indicative of "football speed" than the 40. Then there's processing speed. That mid-4.6s LB might play "faster" than a 4.5 flat guy because he processes the information on the field faster. He's already getting into step two before the 4.5 guy has started moving.

Game tape trumps all. All the other scouting tools they utilize usually serve to muddy the water of an otherwise straight forward process.

Tape shows the tangibles and the intangibles. Game speed. Intelligence. Leadership. Strength. Quickness.

4.55 40 wr who beats press coverage, always open 1st down machine who catches with his hands and never misses an assignment. Yes, please. Sounds like a Coker to me.

Workout wonders (swole bones) with crap tape… next.

This is what bumped Kyren Williams and Bucky Irving down boards and they're two of the hottest RBs in the league right now.

Honestly, it maybe a cheat code to look at who was a somewhat hyped mid-round RB going into the process, slightly underperformed testing wise, but produced very well...and grab him.

Kyle Monangai & Devin Neal fit that bill for me this year.

Good scouting trumps all. Game tape sometimes has to be taken with the grain of salt that the combine does. Greg Little was in fact a top 15 pick just based on his college play. Remember how few pressures/1 sack given up in his career?

There are a lot of players that prospects play against who aren’t good enough to play in the pros. Unfortunately, our scouting and GM have been terrible from 2018 to 2024 and we happen to have a lot of examples where RAS scores don’t guarantee success and game tape doesn’t guarantee success.

Look at Deonte Brown. His RAS score was horrible but he had Nick Saban’s seal of approval and was listed at a day 2 pick just on his college play. The RAS score and playing on a loaded line should have been our red flag. We ignored Trey Smith who also was listed as a day 2 pick just on his college play. Both players dropped but Smith performed because KC handled his medical concerns as NFL Teams should with their resources. Our problem was we ignored Brown’s horrific RAS score and ignored the fact that Smith’s great RAS score backed up the game tape.

Anyway, our issue isn’t that we go game tape over RAS scores or vice versa. Our issue is that we seemingly can’t put everything together and find good NFL talent.
