The closer we get to the draft the more I wonder if we'd consider trading up with the Pats if Abdul Carter falls to #4.

They need OL badly and our pick at #8 is in the perfect spot to get one of the top tackles.

It'd probably take our 2nd rounder to get it done, which wouldn't be ideal but to be able to land Carter it might be worth it, especially if we can trade our 3rd + one or both of our 4ths to move back up into the 2nd later on.

Something like this...

They may stay at 8 and take a safety at 8 and the LB from UCLA in the second. That kid is a Kuechly clone.

I wouldn't go that far. Poor man's Kuechly at best. He's not the athlete that Luke was.

I still wouldn't mind drafting him, though.

How many are? We are not talking about a 1st round guy here. In the 2nd he's a great pick. There's going to be a run on defense after the oline has been picked clean. That should be over in the top half of the 1st round. The second will be picking through what's left of the best defensive players. I'm not sure about the WR class and when the bulk of those guys will start to be picked through.

If he gets to 4, I'm about sure Dan and crew will be tempted to go up for him. It's ideal enough a dro back for the Patriots to still land their tackle. Luke you said tho, would the price be too steep but he'd instantly turn the front 7 into a menace.

I mean he fits this team perfectly. I have considered the possibility that a S might be the pick for sometime now. The edge talk has drowned out any other position talk except the TE Warren. They only reason to consider not to go defense at 8 is if a generational talent on offense is there. Most seem to think that's Warren. So for now I'm going with Emannwori as the front runner.

Warren will be on their radar on attitude alone. Dan loves gritty guys but your right Emannwori makes sense as checking multiple boxes. The other edges present questions  that you can probably  just use ya 2nd round on 1 or trade back up if 1 starts falling. If Carter gets to 4, I'd assume Dan and crew will be tempted to check on a trade too.

Considering our track record in the 2nd round I feel like it may be well worth giving that pick up if it means getting an elite edge rusher at #4.

True. I do like him as a player and I do feel like ILB is our most overlooked need right now. Everyone points to EDGE and WR, but I do not feel comfortable at all going into the season with Josey Jewell and Trevin Wallace as our starters and the guy we signed from the Rams as our only real depth.

Not a chance Roseboom is the depth buddy. He's definitely starting

I'm not ready to slot these guys just yet. The rankings are all over the place. If you go on just raw talent alone the two safties rank higher than all but 1 edge rusher. So there's that. They are more talented than  Walker in my book, and maybe all but 1 CB and that's Barron. Johnson is right behind Starks and Emmanwori from a Panthers perspective.

I'm more just speaking from my own rankings.

Starks didn't have a good season.  His 2023 was stellar but he fell off and gave up a lot this past one.  Raw talent is there - I'll give you that, but not enough to put him in solid 1st round consideration IMO; especially considering his rather avg speed/quickness.  I know there's some who really like him, but I'm just not sold.

UGA in general had an weird year defensively which is why I'm a more hesitant than I would be in the past few years with their guys.  And I also weigh positional value.  Just don't think a safety is worth it THIS high like some other spots (I.E. RB unless it's a generational/once in 5+ years type)  For me, I'm asking "what is a guy like Starks really giving us that a Watts, Ransam or Mukuba isn't?" Maybe a game breaking play once in a while you don't get from just any safety, but that's not happening consistently enough to warrant that much of a boost in his stock.

I just don't see the "it" that others do outside his insane highlight reel 2023 season.

Barron has shaped up to be my CB1 ahead of Johnson.  I haven't heard much on his front related to us, but I personally like the fit.  Can support our base and sub packages.  Both of them have nice skills and would instantly be out there for a very high snap count.  The other guy after being under the microscope that isn't far behind is Amos.  But then I think there's a tad of a tier drop to Morrison/Hairston/Porter/etc.

Emmanwori is in the eye of the beholder.  For us, I'm not so sure he's playing 2-high, he's a big nickel in our sub packages.  As a player, I see him as a Tampa-2 LB, Dimebacker-type.   But we had a similar type in Chinn who we didn't seem to care for with Evero so it makes me wonder a bit...

Some interesting DBs overall.

Johnson hasn't ran his 40 yet and that will determine his draft position. Even then I do not see him going before Barron. As for the safeties, Starks is still the guy to beat even with an off year.

Honestly, I know nothing about Emmanwori other than the Panthers are all over the guy and he's been projected as a top 15 pick. Starks will be picked by a team that has a specific need for his versatility.
