It was a mistake to fire Capers and Seifert because of the money owed on a contract? Since when was that an issue, or a mistake? That was obvious, I'm sure, to the folks who write the contacts and cut the checks. Look, I'm not trying to imply that there is some kind of inside story breaking here. I just checked on it again since your article was dated March 25th and Marvin Lewis still hasn't been extended. He is probably coaching for an extension offer at this point, or wants more money than he is worth to the Bengals. As for John Fox, I still think he has a window of opportunity here, even if it's small and high up on the wall. Maybe with an unexpected result this year, he jumps through it. That's all I'm sayin'...Still would hate to see Meeks go...

You missed the point. It wasn't a mistake to let them go, they needed to go. The mistake was giving them a long-term contract and losing millions when we fired them.

By not extending Fox and all the staff he is making sure that if he lets them go at the end of the season he doesn't owe any of them anything. Sure it could be simply CBA related, but as I was pointing out in the article, it is pretty unprecedented in the league especially for a coach and his whole staff not to be extended. It makes it hard for them to do their job and is the clearest indicator that they are not likely to be extended no matter. Lewis is the only other guy out there and he is on a huge hot seat as well. After all, why else would you take a chance on TO.

I guess anything is possible but I doubt he will he here. It won't likely be a firing especially if we do well, but might very well be something like we couldn't agree on financial terms or he chose to leave for other opportunities. The same way that people get a chance to resign rather than get fired.

I think it would be very interesting to know:

* how many coaches are in the final year of their current contracts

* how many of those have been actively engaged in talks for extensions or new deals

* how many won't have anything done because the owners see this as just another way to save millions during the lockout of 2011- not having to pay coaches (and we're talking about the entire staff, not just the head coach).
