Yasinskas puts Carolina's 'purge' into perspective

The cuts that were made are not going to negatively affect this team. There is not a player (with the exception of Moose....as we can't seem to find a #2 WR) that will be missed.

Hold... up... but the question isn't "who will be missed". The question is "who can produce?" Right now, it doesn't look like we've improved on areas we had problems with last year.

2009 is in the books, what has the Front Office done to prepare for 2010?

So far, that's where I'm drawing a blank. Except for some questionable Draft Picks (Greg Hardy possibly being an exception), our FA activity was almost nil... again... for the second year in a row.

You can say he was cheap for not bringing in any big name FA's. However, this year's FA class is one of the weakest in many years. Marginal FA's were getting overpriced contracts.

In an uncapped year, a one-year contract for an expensive FA just costs you money now. Obviously we weren't willing to do that. That's being cheap no matter how you slice it.

We will be much better in the future....and no worse off this season.

Think about it then. If we're no worse off, then we won't lose more than 8 games. That's still not a play-off contending team.

Lets just be honest here. Whatever the front office is doing, or whatever the direction they are going... its probably going to take years to see any benefit from.

The 2010 Panthers were managed not to do "whatever it takes to win", but "whatever it takes to not spend", contrary to Yak's opinion.

ftfy.

there are more than one logical conclusions.

If you can look at all the facts and draw any other sort of conclusion, then your logic is not being objectively concluded.

For what it's worth... I don't care who coaches the Panthers. I don't care who our GM is... I don't care how much money Richardson spends or saves. I don't even really care who our players are (well, a little maybe)

All I care about is seeing the Panthers win it all. This should be the same goal of the owners and Front Office. From that perspective, the logical conclusion is that they aren't doing what it takes to go all the way in 2010.

It's very clear which side of the fence the fans are on.

They haven't wavered ever since this theory got cooked up back in Feburary/March.

They are going to stick to their guns, cause there hasn't been anything said by the team one way or another to either support it, or denounce it. So therefore, it's still possible! WOOT! for their theory!

Would I have enjoyed Boldin here, heck yes. Him lined up with Steve Smith would be a very good starting receiving set. But I also understand why the team didn't do it.

Doesn't make them cheap.

Like a few others said, this was the worst FA to be a part of. They didn't have the youth you normally see in FA. Lots of vets who were well into their primes, and arguably on the downside of their careers. Not a good FA to be apart of regardless of your team situation. Let alone a team that decides it's going to go with it's youth.

given the choice, should their goal be to win it all this year at the expense of future years or to put themselves in better shape for several years to come?

I've seen nothing to prove that:

a. The future is going to be in "better shape", to win a Superbowl. Having a bunch of cap room usually means you are lacking talent and will spend years rebuilding **cough Arizona cough**.

or

b. Going for it all this year would come at the expense of the "future". Free Agents on one or two year contracts would see a lot of money now, but wouldn't impact our 2012 or later endeavors.

Until I see otherwise, I'm sticking by my "factual" opinion.

It's beyond wise, to purge the contracts they did, in a season they could do it with no repercussions.

And like I mentioned before, it was not a good FA to be grabbing from.

They decided to let this coming season ride on their young talent. The talent that they have been drafting for, and in some cases, trading for, for a few years now.

It's amazing how people can complain when Fox and company isn't playing their young talent, but when they do decide to do so, there is some hidden agenda. Gotta love the conspiracy theorists.

thats the thing. some of these people are just simply saying that he's just being cheap. just because you choose to not spend much money for a moment in time doesn't mean you're just being cheap. it could mean that but when you have a history of not being cheap, of spending as much or more money than anyone then you most likely aren't being cheap. you have to look at the bigger picture and believe that someone that has made as much money as this guy has knows what he is doing. that isn't always the case (al davis) but in this situation you can safely believe that is the case.

I honestly think JR's role as the chairman of the ownership committee negociating the new CBA was the primary driver behind our offseason activities.

He couldn't argue that owners need a break on labor costs after spending all summer signing big name FA's.

The future of the NFL is > than the Panthers 2010 season. As Panthers fans, none of us want to hear that - but it doesn't make it any less true. JR is falling on his sword for the greater good of the NFL.

I never thought of it that way. :patriot: RIP??

I do agree with your first sentence.

Does this mean that JR is just screwing with the fans?
