Yasinskas puts Carolina's 'purge' into perspective

yeah diggs was getting old and hurt. he wasn't on the field all that much for us compared to the other LBs. it could be just a matter of scheme but it also could be because he was hurt too much or had lost a step and was too slow for the scheme.

i'm not bothered much at all by his loss.

I understand we're a run-first team who prefers to aquire talent through the draft and I agree with this philosophy, but the lack of a legit # 2 receiver has been our achillies for a long time and Boldin and a 5th round pick could have been had for our 3rd and 4th round picks!

I understand why we would avoid Brandon Marshall, he's got too many issues off the field for our tastes... but I can't think of why we would turn our nose up at Boldin if it wasn't about the money?

He had issues in Arizona on the field in terms of how he was used and he wanted to get paid, but that makes him no different than a large portion of the elite players in the NFL. It's a fact of life that if you want elite talent in the NFL you're going to have to put up with some B.S. We've put up with stuff from Smitty that we wouldn't put up with from most anyone else. If Smitty was on another team and he became a FA, ask yourself if we would sign him?

Our WR coach is the guy that broke Boldin into the NFL and I noticed that they found each other after the Ravens pre-season game and hugged, so you know the relationship there is good... just one more reason why Boldin would have made perfect sense for us.

your interpretation of what they are doing and their reasoning for it is spin.

you can be a conservative investor holding back when the market is good and liquidating assets to put in in position to make a big move when the market is better and still not be "cheap".

not spending money when there is very little value to be had and opting to wait until things are better is not being cheap. it's called being fiscally responsible and forward thinking.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/spin

Slang . to cause to have a particular bias; influence in a certain direction.

Saying I'm spinning this implies I have a bias toward this salary situation. I can tell you implicitly I do not. The spending of money by the Panthers to better their team makes no difference to me one way or another as long as we are winning. Saying I'm trying to influence this situation is absurd, as I promise you that nothing I say on this message board will influence squat.

Yasinskas on the other hand DOES have influence through his media outlet. For him to say what he did, contradicting himself in his own article, is only really explainable by saying he's spinning it for some reason.

you have an opinion about what is going on and you are interpreting things. that is your spin. and you do have a bias. you're only fooling yourself if you don't think you have one. everyone does. you are saying he is making contradictory statements. i am saying that isn't necessarily so, depending on your interpretation.

i do wish we had made a play for boldin. i was hoping that he would find his way here all along. that is the one thing i wish we had been able to pull off. i can understand why we didn't but i don't think that not going after him was the right thing to do. he would have made our passing game one of the best in the league for sure. no doubt we would have had two of the toughest WRs in the game.

oh well...water under the bridge. here's hoping that they have found or do find a better option for the future.

There's no bias because I really don't care what happens to Richardson's money, and that's the point of the argument here.

Was the team cut down to save Richardson money?

Yaasinskas says "no", then gives contradictory facts to that opinion (we're in the bottom 5 for salary cap next year if there is one).

I'm saying "yes" based on the facts... not an emotional bias.

If John Fox is not retained as HC of the Panthers next year his replacement should be stepping into a very good situation.

We are stocking up on talented young players,so the outlook should look rosey for the next several years.

One has to like the way the defense is coming along,if we can only get the offense to jell,we'll be set.

I am expecting a pretty good year even though we are in a retooling stage.

yas is saying that the cuts were made to put the team in a better position for the future. it wasn't just to be "cheap" this year. he is looking at the bigger picture. he wasn't being "cheap". that is what yas is saying and what you are saying that richardson is doing and that yas is denying that "fact".

can't believe i'm actually defending yas here. :leaving:

So... based on all this... and I'm actually saying you are correct in your statement above... taking this to it's logical conclusion... it is factual to state that the results of 2010 are less of a priority than the future of the team to Richardson.

The cuts that were made are not going to negatively affect this team. There is not a player (with the exception of Moose....as we can't seem to find a #2 WR) that will be missed.

You can say he was cheap for not bringing in any big name FA's. However, this year's FA class is one of the weakest in many years. Marginal FA's were getting overpriced contracts.

We will be much better in the future....and no worse off this season.
