Davidson: First two QB spots have materialized, but No. 3 remains up in the air

Wasnt much of a real competition Clausen was always going to get the backup spot.IMO

“I wouldn’t know what to tell you right now,” Davidson said of who'll be the team's No. 3 quarterback. “We’re still trying to evaluate that situation and get both of those guys the opportunity to show us what they can do. John (Fox) uses the analogy all of the time that we don’t pick the team, they do. It’s very true in this situation.

“We believe the one and two (spots) have materialized and have yet to see who number three is.”

Cantwell's got it.

No. Cant-do-well is a joke and his career in college and the NFL has proved it. If Tony Pike can get some freakin playing time, he'll show you why. He's extremely accurate and makes good decisions. The first preseason game he played well but only got 1 series, and a WR dropped a big ball on 3rd down.

You knew Davidson was gonna go out and get a Notre Dame backup for his Oregon St. QB after seeing how well it worked in Cleveland. Who care's who's third? :)

Before you know it we're going to be bringing in Delhomme to bail out our QB situation.

    • Good points. The Lions went from averaging about ~19 points given up per game midway thru the year to more than 30 over the last 4 games. Some of that is the offenses they've faced (Bills, 49ers with Purdy, Green Bay), but still, the injuries are very clearly impacting their D... They have like 15 players from their D on IR, and now they're playing a buncha JAGs and below - just like us. I'd say Evero's D has come up on some big possessions when games have been close. Where the D has been blown out, it is usually because the offense has really, really sputtered.  Until that final drive of the game, they'd held the Chiefs decently well. They contained TB the first time and PHI the week after; we win both those games if not for offensive miscues. Overall I think Evero's defense this year wasn't as bad as the stats will indicate, but it ultimately may be bad enough to cost him his job... We'll see.
    • No brainer to take the option. He's been steadily improving. If he continues to develop, get that second contract figured out and let's move on to the next roster spot!
