AMC's "The Walking Dead"

Its based on a comic book you know.

I really liked it.

Technically, a series of "graphic novels"

(I haven't read them, but now I'm interested)

Funny that they had the one actor from Jericho on it, because I think one of the big themes will be "what do we do now?" How do people act when all the societal constraints are gone?

***SPOILER ALERT***

Yeah yeah...so it started out 28 Days laterish, but I think it works just fine. The scenario sets up the dazed-like responses of Rick Grimes where he's seeing a shackled door with "Don't Open" and hands reaching through, to the half zombie in the park, to the obvious zombie slowly making his way to him for a lunch when the kid tattoos a shovel to his face. You see this with the conversation he's finishing with a buddy that's visiting him in the hospital, but when he looks...the buddy isn't there and he's alone.

Then you have Morgan and his son who have to deal with their wife/mother walking around outside wanting them for dinner. I wonder if this is a one time acquaintance as they're left behind. Rick is leaving to go to Atlanta to find his wife/son, which they are at a small camp NOT in Atlanta. And if you weren't keen on foreshadowing in the opening scenes in the police car conversations, you wouldn't have picked up on the obvious relationship that ensues at the camp.

Rick goes to Atlanta to seek refuge from supposed known walkers, after putting down the half zombie in the park that he felt pity for. Rick, has more than likely pissed off PETA, for taking that poor horse and riding him into Atlanta only to find hordes of zombies. Fast ones too. And if you're anxiety level wasn't getting peaked underneath the tank, just stop watching now. Horse ends up taking one for the team.

The episode ends awesome....as he's in a tank. OH...for the record...unless there's a zombie a foot away from you, it's very bad to fire a weapon inside of a tank. Just saying. So you're in a tank with hundreds if not thousands of zombies around munching on a horse just feet away. Your bag o'guns are outside with said munched horse with no hope of getting to them. You probably are thinking to yourself, I'm going to starve to death in this thing. Then over the radio...cracks...

"Hey, Dumb-A. Yeah, you in the tank." comes across as both relieving and hilarious. Can't wait until next week.

To an extent, I believe humans could be far more dangerous than the zombies in an even like this.

That will probably be true, like in The Book of Eli where everybody is looking out for their own asses. But then again he was helped so there could be a good mix of good and bad people keeping you on edge as to who's going to be trouble and who's not.

Big Ratings

http://tvbythenumbers.com/2010/11/01/the-walking-dead-lives-large-for-amc-5-3-million-viewers-a-3-2-adults-18-49-rating/70366

5.3 million viewers for the premiere telecast. Update: The 3.6 million adults 18-49 was just for the 10pm airing according to AMC, so the 2.7 (national) adults 18-49 rating stands. Some have e-mailed me about THR saying it had a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating. That could be a coverage rating based on only the adults 18-49 in homes where AMC is available. That’s a useful metric, but not very useful for comparing to the national ratings we usually report.

It was good, very creepy. Better than most of the zombiepacolypse flicks. Would you have gone down that stairway with just matches?

As good as it was, they couldnt come up with something a little less 28 Days Later? Im wondering about wether this series will take that twist on humanity that 28DL did.. The soldiers saying the women couldnt leave, they had to stay to breed, IIRC. SO what is this show going to do?

From amctv.com

The Walking Dead is an epic, edge-of-your-seat drama where personal struggles are magnified against a backdrop of moment-to-moment survival. A survivalist story at its core, the series explores how the living are changed by the overwhelming realization that those who survive can be far more dangerous that the mindless walkers roaming the earth. They themselves have become the walking dead.
