Panthers working to repair pass game

I have yet to be impressed with davidson, our offensive cord.

Was watching a few mintes of the browns game, seeing jake throwing to the tight end more than he ever has. Now maybe I'm reading into it too much...I prolly am...but it did make me wonder if it is our offensive scheme. Could be their tight end is just more trust worthy of a receiver to jake. Shrugs.

We haven't done wwell with finding receivers over the years...but let's not pass judgement on rookies.

I agree with you and Delhommey about Davidson.

As far as Jake and the Browns go I do know Ben Watson (TE) is a freak of an athlete. If his hands were better imo would be a top tier TE in the NFL. He is the kid who ran down Champ Bailey a few years ago about 95 yards and destroyed him at the 1 yard line. Played ball down in Rock Hill.

I got to go to the morning practice yesterday. Pretty much the entire two and a half hours was dedicated to the passing game. There was alot of special teams drills too. Only saw about ten run plays the whole time. SMith looked incredible. Jarrett looked great, didnt drop anything. Moore and Wright looked good. Edwards dropped one in the endzone. I was standing behind the receivers on the sideline and Fox walked over and yelled that in this League if you can get your hands on the ball you are expected to catch it! Smith gave him an amen. Moore looked really good. Passes were precise and fast. Clausen didnt practice. Cantwell was second team and looked like crap. Pike was worse.

Thanks for the update.

I still think the passing game is a different animal with Smith on the field.

Get Smith back and the OLine cleaned up, the passing game will be fine. We don't need it to be elite....just adequate.

I am not worried about the O-line at all. Here is why:

1.) No Jeff Otah, the guy solidifies the right side. 2.) No game planning was done for the past two pre-season games, and on top of that, we faced two of the top defenses who happen to run a 3-4 scheme which is very difficult to block against especially if you have not prepared for it. 3.) Finally, the backups really poo the bed the most in the second half. I think since that is what we saw last, we tend to remember that the most and it skews our evaluations some.

Look for the O-line to be much improved against the Titans.

If we're in trouble without Otah, then we could be in trouble. I don't foresee him being a guy that ever plays 16 games.

I know I'm not alone in thinking Scwartz didn't do well on the right side last year. They really had to protect him with TE's and backs. Now that he isn't protected by scheme, he's looking real bad.

Most telling sentence in the article was that the team has allowed 11 sacks in 2 preseason games.

With young QB's, pass protection is critical. Shore up the OLine, and the passing game would probably have been avg in the preseason. Shore up the OLine and get Smitty back and the passing game will be fine.

Our Oline seems to need a quarter of the season to get it together.

even with no schemeing their still had to be some sort of blitz pick up, im pretty sure mag didnt say lets just let them in and knocked the hell out of moore and clausen. hopefully we will get it together.

to be fair, the last time they took any practice reps in terms of facing a 3-4 defenses/blitzes before the Baltimore game was during the 2009 season. The only practice they got prior to the Jets game was the Ravens preseason game.

I think that probably matters to some degree. I also think it is why no coaches really stress anything but the 3rd game in terms of the results they are looking for. In the first two games that are probably look at stuff we aren't even thinking about.
