Damn root canal...

I got root canal last thursday and I was fine. Now it start hurting like a bitch. Dentist told me to give him a call if I need some vicodeine and I might just do that. Is it normal for root canal to hurt few days later?

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out in an extreme manner (not a normal wisdom tooth extraction operation apparently) and I didn't take a single pain pill. They gave me hydrocodone too.

I have terrible teeth and I have had numerous root canals.

If it was really infected, it could hurt for a couple days after.

Did they have to cut your gums a lot? If so it could be that your gums are just a little inflamed.

If he is offering to give you free vicodine, then I'd take him up on that offer.

When I was told I needed a root canal I asked what all was involved. When I found out what the success rate was I opted for them just pulling the tooth.

The only root canal I've had didn't hurt at all. But, I say take the free vicodin.

Some soreness is not unusual several days out.

Still, I would make sure to have a follow up appointment just to be sure everything is healing normally.

Also, don't make the mistake of not doing the final restoration that will cover the root canal treated tooth.

Otherwise, in a few years you will be joining the geniuses in the "just pull it" crowd anyway, minus the money you spent on the RCT.

I had my jaw surgically replaced with a metal plate with sharpened steel teeth. I refused anesthesia, and crammed the prescription for Demerol down the Dr.'s throat. I then ate a bowl of in-shell walnuts, and gnawed on some tungsten steel bars to pass the time. Man up already!

Yes, it can hurt for a day or two... you just had a tooth nerve forcefully removed. Just take the pain pills, you'll be ok. If it gets worse call your Dentist.
