The Number one Defence in the preseason is..

What is our ranking on the offensive side of the ball?

I bet it's like 49 or 50, right?

Right because there's 49 or 50 teams... at the moment we are second to last or 31st since you think there are 50 teams....

but in my experience when you take the best player off any team in footballs offense there usually not very good..

Hmm. So when the Jets made our offense look like rubbish, it's because we weren't game planning, didn't prepare for their blitz, and weren't showing our hand, and were missing folk (Otah would've changed little, Smitty would've been doubled in the regular season...maybe covered by Revis). But I wonder how many of you think the Jets were playing full steam ahead on offense, and our killer D simply shut them down?

It's true, the D did show signs of hope, but yeah, the pre-season isn't much of a gauge.

All I am saying is that paying any attention to preseason rankings is about as useful as Eric Sheltons touchdown shelf.

Well our pre-season short comings on defense carried over to the regular season last year... defense success/failing tends to carry more than offense because defense is more instincts and were offense tends to rely on execution.

Understand what you are saying. However, with all of the new faces on the defense and the way everyone thought they would suck, their performance is a breath of fresh air.

I sure would feel better knowing that I only have to work on fixing the talented offense rather than the talented team! Did I mention a talented offense with, like, three key players hopefully returning by RS?

I also think if we ask him right, and offer him $1.2 million a game bonus for catching KO returns...you know the money we might have spent franchising some DE...Smith might do it!

Go back and look btw Revis said Smitty was the hardest person he had to cover, if you look at the footage of last years game Smitty had him beaten badly on multiple occasions Jake's inaccuracy was so awful we couldn't take advantage... but nice try.

I kind have doubt it would have mattered the jets were getting beat in the trenches by our four man rush, were as they were sending exotic blitz packages at us safety blitz ever other play seriously?

You are right. Preseason rankings don't mean squat.

Although, with the coaches still figuring out who our defense front 4 are, and playing a lot of non-starters also, and our defense still playing well, is a very good sign.

Given the fact that the offense sucks(which was the side of the ball I've been most concerned with all throughout off-season, and training camp), hopefully with the return of Otah, Stewart, and Smith, our offense will be able to sustain drives, and help our defense even more, by keeping them from being on the field all day come regular season.

We better hope Steve Smith stays healthy...otherwise this season will be exactly as most fans around here have been predicting, a lost season.
