Preseason 2010 vs history

hello huddle, new guy here, I been reading this site since '05 and just decided to chime in. All negativity aside, the 2010 carolina panthers after 2 preseason games in comparison to previous years means exactly what? Lets say we have a duplicate 3rd game and a 4th game that dosen't suffice. Is this a prediction of gloom and doom? does anyone remember preseason from 05, 06, 07, or 08 in relation to how the season panned out? I dunno I feel like our 1st teamers are really the B team in the most of vanilla ways and I dont know if I should panic yet, I care a lot about this team, and I look forward all year EVERY year for this and i just dont know.

Don't care about wins/losses in the preseason, but how prepared the team looks. 2009 preseason they looked like a complete mess. We tried to justify it with talk of vanilla and game planning, but the team continued to be a mess for half of the season.

The first game this year, they looked a lot better and I felt like we had a team on our hands. This last game makes me feel like we're back to the same crap we've been watching for years.

so where does that leave us in terms of history. can anyone recall 05 when we made the championship game? did we suck in preseason due to lack of 2nd receiver..or run game......or defense......or lack of expectations ......

Think about how stale our offensive system can be, drain the last bits of creativity from the playbook, and those are the plays we run during preseason. We aren't running the offense we will field in the season, no reason to give the enemy free game tape. Come season, our offense will be fine. Look at last year, even with a turnover machine at QB.

What did people expect? That we would replace 9 starters and not take time to develop chemistry. Our defense is actually way ahead of where I thought we would be and we really shut the Jets down last night. Why focus totally on the negative. Remember that Smitty alone cause double teams and safeties to play deep instead of in the box. The running game didn't even get cranked up last night. Plus remember that a lot of the 8 and 9 in the box were with little respect for the passing game especially in the second half with Clausen in and no deep game.

I don't see any preseason stats for the 2005 season, but here is 2006.

lol i guess what im trying to get at is this=

08 lions = 4-0 preseason looked beasty, 1st team kitna squad claimed 10 wins, pundits questioned it lions went 0-16

08 colts= 1-4 preaseason..lost the home opener to da bears then went 12 -4

09 colts= i believe they went like 0-4 looked questionable at times (1st team) people brought up mannings maybe not this year, knee issues, team went to the superbowl

09 packers= preseason champs, made it as a wild card...couldn't beat arizona.

basically what im getting at is that preseason has no stock, new players old players, we will forget we talked about this week 2. Something will be off the wall, or very right and lafell dropping balls will not really be our topic of discussions.

I don't know, there is a lot of talk about vanilla playbooks, but let's face it, our offense for the last two games really looks like they are phoning it in. Sloppy, flabby, uninspired, and generally pathetic.

I'm beginning to think we may have a problem at OC position. Win or lose, Dan Henning had the offense looking like it was interested in actually playing the game by the first pre-season game. The last two years, however, makes it look like Davidson isn't into fine tuning mode yet and more of the '68 Camaro-clunker-under-the-tarp-in-the-driveway mode still.

What has he been doing this summer? Cutting early to be first to the chow line in the cafeteria?

And special teams? Don't get me started. If we look past Armanti Edwards' shortcomings, I'm not seeing much of a light beyond the three kickers. Coverage and protection were horrible, across the board. Blech. Pre-season scrubs or not, the other team had theirs out there, too and we looked like a Pop Warner squad.

Defense, well, either we're pretty good there, or the Jets better quit talking Super Bowl soon.

This would be a great point if...

2008- We look good in preseason, training camp, fanfest...good season

2009- We look awful in preseason, training camp, fanfest...bad season

2010- We look awful in preseason, training camp, fanfest...???

The 2009 season and free agency philosophy pretty much ruins your point sadly...
