I caught over 100 punts in camp, that's not an excuse anymore

Edwards muffs a punt or two = forum explodes.

Munnerlyn and Moore both cough it up = forum ignores.

Pretty easy explaination.

Edwards = drafted in the 3rd round plus traded away a 2nd to get him

Munnerlyn = drafted in the 7th round

Moore = Signed from Detroit's practice squad who drafted him in the 5th round

Munnerlyn = 3rd CB who is integral to the team and fielded punts all year last year and should be able to do it well by now.

Moore = Guy who is supposed to be stepping up in some role or another and isn't.

I like all of them and hold no grudges against any of them, but Edwards is definitely taking a lot of criticism.

Agreed that AE is taking a lot of heat that may not all be warranted. The mostly likely reason is that everyone's anger towards the organization for wasting this years 3rd and next years 2nd on an undersized QB from a small 1AA school to play WR/Returner in the NFL is now all being placed onto Armanti.

Definitely. It is a bit unwarranted though. It's not like Armanti is intentionally trying to screw up and considering the task that has been given to him, I think he is doing fine (mostly as a WR - not really talking PR).

I knew I'd get a headache reading Armanti threads today.

I'm as big an AE fan as there is out here, so last night made me sick. But those that have followed him know that he'll always take responsibility (as in the quote that started this thread). And he's a hard worker and super competitive.

Now, will this turn him into a dependable punt returner? Who knows. I think his future is as a WR and of course I'd love to see some wildcat touches (honestly, I'd love to see him play QB but I know that's not going to happen). Like someone else said, maybe hang him back there in kickoff returns to build a little confidence.

And in another thread someone talked about returning punts in high school (might have been on another forum) and how easy it is.... I'm thinking they were probably not returning punts from an NFL punter, with NFL gunners coming atcha.

Definitely AE's muss up on both punts, no doubt though.

One good thing was them showing Steve Smith talking to him after that first one.

If anything good comes out of this...it's that the kid can learn from one of the best.

Some folks have their panties in a thick wad over his draft position and what we gave up to get a "potential playmaker" but what's done is done. He needs to adjust and who knows, he might not end up being much of a PR/KR....then again, he just might.

However, a few hours in a preseason game isn't going to give him sudden confidence and ability to completely change how he reads the field and sees the ball descending down on him in a game. Give the kid a break. He's a project and needs work. I didn't think he was going to take the NFL and burn it down as a PR/KR but I can certainly see he has potential if he learns the ropes.

I am not giving up on him yet and I would rather he works out the chinks in a preseason game. I saw much more failure in the Special teams play than can be placed solely on AE. It wasn't just AE failing. We just stank to hell overall on special teams.

The two misplayed punts dropped Edwards stock alot. He may be a WR but we all know his main job this year is returning punts. It's not an easy job, 1st punt i tried to catch hit me in the top of the head and was recovered by the other team for a touchdown. But that was in middle school. Edwards needs to step up. This is his only chance to see the field in the regular season.
